Job Duties:
Crops/Commodities: Christmas trees, nursery stock, field crops. Christmas trees: Planting, cultivating and harvesting evergreen trees. Cutting trees with gasoline-operated chain saws. Dragging trees from cutting area and shaking trees with mechanical shaker. Baling trees using a mechanized baler. Shearing trees with knives, pulling cones off, fertilizing and coloring trees with sprayers. Piling trees to stack. Will load and unload trees (at heights up to 12 feet) with elevators onto trucks for transport. Work includes tagging and inventory of trees. May make wreaths, roping, or other Christmas-related items from cut greenery produced on the farm. Nursery: Work will also include planting/potting trees and shrubs using potting machines, unloading and loading plants requiring plant identification, pulling weeds, tagging plants with genus/species tags, wrapping plants, fertilizing plants, performing plant inventory on plants, trimming and irrigation of plants. May operate bobcats, tractors, forklifts, farm trucks, conveyors, irrigation systems, pumps and other motorized or mechanized equipment. Nursery represents 75% of work performed. General farm production: Workers will also plant and harvest field crops, and assist in irrigating crops with center pivot systems. Knowledge of back flushing, blowing out and draining system required. Workers may be required to operate tractors or other farming implements, including moving grain trailers, combines and planters. Work is to be done in the field for long periods of time. Workers will assist in identifying plants while loading trucks with product weighing up to and including 70 pounds and lifting to a height of 5 feet for long periods of time. Workers should be able to work on their feet in bent positions for long periods of time. Work requires repetitive movements and extensive walking. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, insect spray, related chemicals, etc. may affect workers’ ability to perform the job. Workers are exposed to wet weather early in the morning through the heat of the day, working in fields. Temperatures may range from 10 to 100 F. Workers may be required to work during occasional showers or snow not severe enough to stop field operations. Workers should be physically able to do the work required with or without reasonable accommodations. The employer may discipline the worker, including brief suspension of work activities (“time out”) for a period determined by the supervisor, suspension from employment for a set period of days or termination of employment as described in the Work Rules. Workers may not report for work while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Except for moderate alcohol consumption in company housing during non-working hours, the possession or use of illegal drugs or alcohol on Company property is prohibited and will be cause for termination. Persons seeking employment as experienced Nursery Worker must be available for the entire period requested by the employer. Successful applicants will be subject to a trial period up to 5 days during which their performance of required tasks will be evaluated. If the performance during the trial period is not acceptable to the employer the worker's employment will be terminated. Employer retains the right to discharge an obviously unqualified worker, malingerer or recalcitrant worker who is physically able but does not demonstrate the willingness to perform the work necessary for the employer to grow a premium quality product, or for any other lawful reason. Employer may request, but not require, workers to work more than the stated daily hours and/or on a worker’s Sabbath or federal holidays. Workers will have an unpaid lunch break. Worker must report to work at designated time and place each day. Daily or weekly work schedule may vary due to weather, sunlight, temperature, crop conditions, and other factors.

Special Requirements:
This job requires a minimum of three months of prior experience working in nursery and/or tree production handling both manual and machine tasks associated with commodity production and harvest activities. Workers must be able to perform manual as well as mechanized activities with accuracy and efficiency. Applicants must be able to furnish verbal or written statement establishing relevant prior work experience. Saturday work required. Must be able lift/carry 70 lbs. Employer-paid post-hire drug testing is required upon reasonable suspicion of use and after a worker has an accident at work.
