IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING WAGES FOR TEMPORARY AGRICULTURAL JOBS

The Department of Labor recently announced new minimum wage rates, called Adverse Effect Wage Rates (AEWRs), that employers must offer and pay, at the time work is performed, to nonimmigrant H-2A workers and workers in corresponding employment beginning on the effective date of the new wage rates. Job Duties:
Diversified Crops: corn, beans, wheat, hay & straw Workers may fill planters with seed from bags, by hand. Workers may use equipment to plant seeds. Workers may load and unload seed bags from trucks. Workers may transport harvested crops for storage. Workers may clean and prepare equipment and tools. Workers may prepare fields for next crop. Workers may assist in planting of hay & straw. Workers may assist in the harvest of hay & straw, picking up bale and place on trucks or wagons Other Related Duties: Workers may chop weeds from between plants with a hoe. Workers may remove tops and suckers from plants and apply side dressing. Alternative Work: This could include workers preparing barns, preparing land for planting, draining fields, maintenance of tools and equipment, and other work that is directly related to growing tobacco or crop and activities for which the worker was hired. Such work will be offered when climate or crop conditions preclude working in the primary activities stated above. Alternative work may only be required if the first week wage guarantee listed in 20 CFR 653.501 is invoked.

WORKERS SHOULD BE ABLE TO STAND, WALK, BEND & STOOP, ALSO LIFT 60-80 LBS UP TO 4 FT. FOR EXTENDED PERIODS. WORKERS MAY BE SUBJECT TO RANDOM DRUG TESTS AT EMPLOYERS COST, POST EMPLOYMENT WORKERS WILL BE TRAINED FOR 16 HOURS, AT WHICH TIME THEY WILL BE EXPECTED TO PERFORM ALL JOB DUTIES LISTED, IN A EFFECTIVE TIME MANNER.
