vegetables, including, but not limited to, cabbage, green beans, summer squash, winter squash, pumpkins, peas, broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, sweet corn, soybeans, field corn and sunflowers.
Manually plant, cultivate, harvest and pack vegetables. Use hand tools, such as trowels, hoes and knives. Work on planter, planting roots,and seeds. Cultivate, weed and thin plants. Transplant plants by hand. Pick, cut, lift, or pull crops to harvest them. Will tie vegetables in bunches or top them. Grade, size and package product. Apply pesticides, fertilizer and crop protectants. Place irrigation pipe and fittings. Considerable stooping and kneeling is required. Care must be taken to prevent damaging produce and plants. Will assist with general maintenance of buildings,–grounds, and equipment.
Workers are expected to perform duties including boxing, weighing and loading of product. Workers will assist in loading trucks with packaged product weighing up to and including 70 pounds and lifting to a height of 5 feet for long periods of time. Workers will perform tasks associated with packing vegetables, inspect vegetables, remove segregated vegetables from sorting stations, hand pack in boxes or bags. Stack packed vegetables, load/unload as needed. Workers will operate agricultural machinery/equipment essential to packing vegetables, including regular forklifts. Fork lift operator responsibilities will include delivering pallets of finished product to cold storage, loading/unloading as needed. Workers will be responsible for cleaning all machinery, electronic equipment and the facility work areas at end of shift. Workers must adhere to all Food Safety Protocols.
Workers will be required to harvest crops by hand and work in the fields for long periods of time. Workers must be able to work on their feet in bent positions, and must be able to bend and stoop for long periods of time. Work requires repetitive movements and extensive walking.. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honey bees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker’s ability to perform the job. Work required in fields when plants are wet with dew and rain, and may be required during light rain, snow, moderate winds, direct sun, high humidity and extreme temperatures. Temperatures in fields may range from 0 to 90+ degrees F. Workers will be required to work during occasional showers not severe enough to stop field operations. To be qualified for this position, a worker must be willing to perform the considerable manual labor required on such a farm. Saturday work required. Must be able to lift/carry 70 lbs.
In addition, workers will be required to perform variable tasks such as the following: ditching, shoveling, hoeing, hauling, ground preparation, and other tasks related to general farming.
Work will also include mechanized field work using power equipment. By way of example and not limitation power equipment include tractors, planters, sprayers, cultivators, weed eaters and other equipment. Workers will be expected to be able to operate agricultural equipment with or without direction. Maintain/repair farm implements, equipment and vehicles.
Employer-paid post-hire random, upon suspicion, and post-accident drug testing required.
Workers with a clean driving record (no major moving violations such as but not limited to Driving While Intoxicated or Reckless Driving) and able to obtain an insurable license may be required to drive company vehicles.
Tobacco use strictly prohibited. No smoking or tobacco use of any kind permitted in the fields, worker housing, or anywhere on company premises. This is necessary to protect against transmission of toxins and contamination from tobacco by-products.
