In the spring, application occurs in late March through June before the corn is planted. Additional seasonal help is needed for this labor-intensive part of our production cycle. Laborers are responsible for preparing, maintaining, cleaning and operating all machinery and equipment used for the handling of the manure. Liquid slurry manure is pumped into tanker applicators to be applied directly to crop fields or is pumped through an umbilical hose system utilizing pumps, tractors and hoses to move the manure to the crop fields. Laborers may need to be proficient in tractor and pump operations. Some manure requires truck transportation so a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) may be necessary.
