Worker will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of corn, grain, hay and potatoes. Supervisory duties may include the following: supervise, demonstrate, instruct and communicate with lead persons, labor crews and other workers with regards to required job duties; plan personnel, equipment and supply requirements for each farm task; assist in personnel education and job performance evaluations; identify and manage disease and pest control needs; hire/train new employees; review timesheets, distribute pay checks and manage wage changes; properly notify H/R of terminations or employee issues; attend meetings to discuss/organize schedules, labor and equipment; order parts to maintain/repair equipment and provide employees with necessary supplies to complete their job duties; supervise farm machinery maintenance work; check and determine when soil moisture/temperature is correct/suitable for planting and harvest; calculate crop yields; supervise crop storage to ensure crops do not bruise, rot, freeze, dry out or mold; assist in budgeting for the upcoming crop year; keep/maintain records. Supervisor may also perform the following general farm and irrigation duties as well as supervising and assisting operators/irrigators with same: General Farm Work: maintain, drive, attach, adjust and operate farm implements/tractors/equipment to till soil, plant, cultivate, fertilize and harvest crops; make minor mechanical adjustments and repairs on farm machinery, vehicles and trucks; load planter; report malfunctions; operate wheel loaders, grain sweeps and GPS tracking systems in advance technology tractors; maintain correct planting, harvesting and cultivating adjustments required by constantly changing fields and conditions; may mix and/or spray/apply chemicals/fertilizer (according to appropriate restrictive use laws, when/if applicable); remove undesirable and excess growth from crops or farm grounds; remove rocks from field; paint/repair/maintain farm structures; replace/repair fencing; perform general cleanup of farm areas; drive, load/unload trucks; operate motor bike or all-terrain vehicle in the course of performing duties; demonstrate and use hand signals; drive truck to move raw unfinished product from fields to raw storage facilities or from storage facilities to fields for replanting; unload grain onto conveyors and into planting machines, storage bins or elevator; operate grain sweep. Duties related to the Cutting/Sorting of Seed Potatoes will include the following: Will instruct techniques to cut and sort potatoes by: using knife to cut potato into sections; place potatoes on machine that cuts potatoes into sections; push button to start machinery; tend/ monitor machine to insure proper movement of product; discard diseased/rotting/inferior product and foreign matter; report malfunctions; general cleanup. Irrigation - Wheel lines: start gasoline engines and operate controls to move lines across fields at specified intervals. Pivots: push on switch that activates circle sprinkler system. Other Irrigation Duties: instruct/train lead person in proper irrigation procedures; remove pipes/wheel lines from storage and lay out/place in predetermined patterns in fields; lubricate, adjust, repair and replace parts such as sprinkler heads and drive chains using hand tools. Observe revolving sprinklers and adjust to ensure proper operation and uniform distribution of water; observe the movement of wheel sets, ensure motors are operating properly and adjust pressure of water flowing through sprinklers; disassemble, service and store pipes/mainlines/wheel lines after irrigation season.

Applicants must have 30 days experience with: crop tillage, planting, cultivation, and harvesting methods for crops listed in various soil types and disease and pest identification and management; basic operation and/or repair skills for irrigation systems, equipment, irrigation scheduling and water consumption and chemigation and fertigation methods; product calculation and calibration. Applicants must provide the contact information of at least one reference who can verify experience and performance. Applicants hired must be able to obtain a valid drivers license within 60 days of hire as driving on public roads may be required. Within 60 days of hire applicants must be able to pass pesticide HANDLER and WORKER safety training as required by the Federal Worker Protection Standard and obtain a Handler Verification Card at the employers expense (classroom instruction provided by the employer).
