Job Duties:
The job opportunity is a bona fide, full time temporary position. Duties of seafood processor/crab picker: steam, clean and pick whole crabs; weigh, sort, ice, debone, pack, cook, seafood preparation for wholesale/retail sale. General plant labor such as clean and prepare work areas, load/unload, dump, clean, move, dock work, grade, freeze, prepare, seal, lift/carry up to 50lbs; and any other activities related to seafood processing/crab picking. Must have good work ethic, follow directions and perform manual labor. Mon - Fri; work extended daily hours and weekends when necessary. Work is supervised. Must be in good health, no infections, diseases or seafood allergies. Overtime is not guaranteed but if worked rate is paid at time and a half per hour above 40 hours per week. Discretionary raise/bonus. Piece rate is paid at $3.15 per pound picked meat or prevailing wage rate, whichever is higher. Production standard is 3 pounds (free of shells) picked meat after two week training period. Following is expanded job description regarding load/unloading duties: Workers will assist with unloading raw product (crabs) from boats or trucks and place in processing area or onto tables to be processed. Workers will also assist with loading finished product into refrigerators or freezers for storage. Workers will assist with loading finished product onto trucks for shipment. Seafood must be processed and handled according to certain health & safety guidelines. All processing/preparation surfaces, utensils and carrying trays will be cleaned/sanitized before and after processing. Employee will prepare for processing by washing their hands according to the approved method. The containers will be sanitized before crab meat is placed inside. Any trash or debris generated during processing the crab meat will be cleaned up immediately afterwards and disposed of in the proper receptacle.
