Job Duties:
The Apiary Manager will perform various beekeeping tasks and assist in the daily management of a bee operation including inspection of bees and fulfill the animal husbandry requirements of our 110 hives. Duties include: making splits; grafting and raising queens; feeding and treating bees; maintaining bee yards; adding needed equipment (supers) and pulling honey at the end of the season; maintaining equipment by painting bee boxes, waxing frames and assembling new equipment; drive forklifts, loaders, farm vehicle as needed; minor daily and incidental upkeep to equipment and worksite. The Apiary Manager will help keep apiary sections clean and the surrounding areas presentable and organized. Worker must be able to lift at least 75 lbs. The position includes expected incidental work such as, but not limited to, maintenance of equipment, maintain passable access to apiaries and extracting bottling honey for sale. The Apiary Manager will manage the raising of honeybees to produce honey and maintain colony health through feed/supplements; find and cage queens, install queen cells; assembles beehives, inserts honeycomb of bees into hives; forces bees from hives; uncaps harvested honeycombs and extracts approx. 75 pounds of honey from honeycombs per box.; moving bee boxes from hives to extracting facility; driving farm vehicle to obtain supplies, honey extracting equipment, Drew’s Honeybees, Inc. will provide all equipment, vehicles, tools, and otherwise necessary for the successful completion of this position. The Apiary Manager must have prior knowledge and experience working with honeybee production and apiaries. Days and hours may vary due to weather and temperature conditions. The Apiary Manager should have an eagerness to observe and collaborate towards rigorous, replicable scientific research as well.
