- DeWitt’s Game Farm is a gamebird operation producing Bobwhite Quail, Chukar Partridge, and Ringneck Pheasants. The farm raises game birds from egg to mature adult and takes them to market. Employment is temporary and seasonal, beginning January and ending August each year. This period represents the busiest and most labor-intensive phase of the farm’s production cycle due to due to egg production, chick hatching, flock care, and facility maintenance activities.
Workers will perform a variety of farm labor tasks related to the care and production of gamebirds, including tend to laying flocks and newly hatched chicks, Collect, wash, and rack eggs; transfer eggs to incubators and hatchers. Count and handle chicks; clean and sanitize hatch baskets, trays, and equipment. Feed, water, and provide proper care and disease control for birds of all ages. Apply blinders to pheasants (approximately 150,000 birds during the season). Catch, handle, and load gamebirds for sale and transport. Process, skin, clean, and package gamebirds while maintaining sanitary conditions.
Clean and prepare barns, pens, feeders, and waterers between flocks. Perform farm maintenance including: Repairing and fabricating pens, boxes, and other enclosures. Cleaning, disinfecting, and preparing facilities. Mowing, weed-eating, hand-pulling weeds, tilling, planting, and setting feeders.
Perform maintenance on farm equipment, vehicles, and tools. Work will include Intensive cleaning, disinfection, and pen preparation between flocks.
Workers Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and follow all farm rules and disease control procedures to protect bird health
