- Job Duties:
- During this timeframe, all phases of agricultural work are performed, including field preparation, planting, spraying, fertilizing, and harvesting. Job duties include preparing fields for planting and operating a variety of farm equipment such as tractors, plows, discs, planters, sprayers, harvesters, seed drills, and manure spreaders. Workers are responsible for attaching implements, mixing and applying fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides, and engaging in planting, weeding, spraying, and harvesting activities. Tasks also include loading and unloading crops or materials manually or using conveyors, forklifts, or transfer augers, monitoring equipment operation to detect malfunctions, and performing routine maintenance and basic repairs. Employees record crop weights, maintain agricultural data, and ensure proper operation and adjustment of all farm machinery and attachments. In addition to fieldwork, responsibilities extend to the transportation of agricultural products, livestock, and materials using trucks with capacities greater than three tons, including tractor-trailer combinations. Duties include checking all load-related documentation for completeness and accuracy, inspecting trucks and trailers before and after loading to ensure safety and mechanical soundness, and securing cargo using ropes, chains, or covers. Workers couple and uncouple trailers, connect and disconnect air and electrical lines, and operate landing gear. They follow safety and regulatory procedures, including those for transporting hazardous or perishable goods, and drive trucks to weigh stations and along assigned routes in compliance with state and federal regulations. Drivers are required to maintain accurate logs of hours, routes, and vehicle service or repair status, operate GPS and communication systems to receive routing instructions and optimize fuel efficiency, and perform minor vehicle maintenance such as fueling, adding oil or coolant, changing tires, and washing trucks. They may also conduct emergency roadside repairs, inspect and clean trailers, obtain delivery receipts or signatures, and collect payments when required. Throughout all duties, workers are expected to operate equipment safely and efficiently, follow detailed delivery and fieldwork instructions, and support overall farm operations through dependable performance, accurate recordkeeping, and routine equipment care. Employer may, at its sole discretion, provide pay increases based on longevity or experience. Employer may also, at its sole discretion, offer performance-based incentive bonuses that are not guaranteed and are determined by the employer.
