Crops: Apples, Strawberries, Nectarines, Asian pears, Peaches, Pears, Plums, Blueberries, Cherries, Grapes, Apricots, Berries, Blackberries, Fruits, Hard squashes, Orchard, Orchard crops, Pumpkin/gourds, Pumpkins, Raspberries, Stone fruits, Sunflowers, Trees. All applicants must be able, willing and qualified to perform the work described in the job order and must be available for the entire period of employment specified in Section A. Boxes 3 & 4. This work order is for willing, able and qualified people to perform a variety of orchard work harvesting and packing apples at an apple orchard. Packing line work includes but is not limited to: sorting apples according to size, color and grade before packing; lining boxes, cartons or crates with treated paper or cardboard; placing apples in containers for storage or shipment; weighing, stamping, branding and dating of packing on container, and packing apples according to the quality and method required by the employer. Orchard workers must be able to plant, prune, water and train trees. Workers will perform other field work such as weeding, thinning, hoeing, grafting nursery stock and other duties related to the planting and maintenance of fruit trees and vegetables. Workers may need to operate and repair/maintain equipment, pick up brush from orchard floor, install and maintain orchard irrigation and trellis. Workers may also repair broken bins and build new bins, as well as perform other farm-related duties as the need arises. Workers must be able to press apples and bottle sweet cider into clean cider equipment. Workers must be able to slice apples and clean slicing equipment. Workers must be able to handle and climb a 20-foot ladder repetitively while carrying a picking bucket which is harnessed over the worker’s shoulders. During harvest, productivity must be at least 60 1-1/8 bushel boxes per 7 hours worked with no more than 5% bruising for the fresh market. The employer will provide 1 day of training and allow 2 days of work for the workers to satisfactorily perform duties described in this job description. Workers may be requested to work 11.5-hour shifts between the hours of 7:00am and 7:00pm on Monday, and Wednesday through Sunday. The employer will furnish all tools and equipment required at no cost to workers. Workers will be given at least a 30-minute lunch break which is staggered between 11am and 1pm as decided by the workers. Workers may choose where to eat their lunch and return to work after their 30 minutes are up. Workers will also receive a 15-minute break in the morning and a 15-minute break in the afternoon as agreed upon by the worker and management. Workers should report for work with their own suitable clothing. Workers will be outside in varied weather conditions with temperatures as low as 0 degrees Fahrenheit and as high as 90 degrees Fahrenheit. They may be required to work on ground covered with up to 2 feet of snow.

Workers must have a minimum of 1 month of experience and be able to perform general orchard work and harvest apples, pears, peaches, and other fruit as season and conditions allow. The work assigned will be physically demanding: bending, stooping, and kneeling for long periods of time will be required. Workers must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds frequently. Workers must be able to operate agricultural equipment safely and must be able to take directions in simple English. The employer will provide 1 day of training and allow 2 days of work for the workers to satisfactorily perform duties described in this job description.
