Job Duties:

Harvest citrus fruit by hand under supervision, the worker will place a picking sack over his shoulder and carry a 18 foot to 20 foot ladder from the field truck to the particular area of the grove to be harvested. The picking sack is a canvas bag equipped with a shoulder strap for support, an opening for the insertion of fruit, and an opening to remove fruit. A fully loaded sack weighs between 80 and 100 pounds, depending on the size, condition and variety of fruit. Worker positions ladder against the tree and within reach of the fruit in a leaning position, taking care not to damage tree limbs, fruit, or interfere with other workers. Ladders will be placed in a secure position to prevent slipping or falling and possible injury to themselves or other workers. Worker will climb the ladder and will remove fruit from the tree using a snapping action of the wrist and place fruit in picker's bag. When bag is full, will descend the ladder, take the full sack to the assigned fruit tub or bin located in the grove and drop fruit in tub. The worker in order to perform this kind of work must be able to work outside for at least 6 hours a day in all kinds of weather and be in possession of the requisite physical strength and endurance to repeat the picking process rapidly. The worker will then return to the assigned trees and repeat the operation until all trees have been harvested. The worker will be supplied a ladder and a picking sack free of charge, the employer can charge the worker for cost related to the workers refusal or negligent failure to return the tools due to such workers. The citrus picking sac weighs approximately 5 lbs when empty but can weigh up to 100 lbs when filled with citrus. Each ladder weighs approx. 25 lbs. Will work in cold,hot&rainy weather. should be able to carry 80-100lb bags, climb stairs up to 20ft while picking the fruit,carrying the sack on uneven groud to the harvest tub,dump fruit in the harvest. Employer may terminate the worker with notification to the Job Service local office if the worker: (e) there will be a 1 week training period and 2 week probation period for the worker to meet the production standards listed in the application. Workers will be excepted to meet the following production standards after completion of training or break-In period, if applicable. The Company utilizes tubs or their equivalents to measure the unit production of each worker. A tub ls conic in shape with the top being larger in diameter than the bottom end of tub. Each tub is equivalent to 10 boxes. Grapefruit is a 9 box bin and grove work is by hourly rate. When an employee is paid piece rate, the employee wlll be paid by each tub completed (one tub is approx. Equal to 10 boxes). A tub is considered full when the volume of empty space within the tub is filled to capacity. The tub is not to be heaped over the top, nor is lt to contain a divot at the center, or be filled less than to the brim. The employee is expected to fill the tub as he would a glass of water to the brim without spillage. Each full tub is measured by eyesight, not weight, and by the crew leader.
