Job Duties:

The employer is a horse farm engaged in the breeding and foaling of horses. The seasonal employment begins in May and ends in October, while the horses are bred, birthed, and weaned. Workers will assist in all aspects of the process to breed and foal mares. Workers will assist with caring for brook mares, including assisting certified veterinarian with pregnancy checks of mares and the administering of routine intra-muscular injections. Workers will assist in the delivery of foals, including post pregnancy treatment of mares and neonatal care of foals. Workers will assist certified veterinarian in the administering of vaccinations to foals. Workers will work with foals/yearlings, including brushing; leading; picking up feet; petting and touching foals to acclimate them to humans; setting up feed and hay storage, and supply rooms; setting up bathing and grooming stations; walking yearlings for exercise; and cleaning and preparing yearlings for shows. Workers will assist in the process of weaning foals from their mares. Workers will perform a variety of semi-skilled task associated with horse breeding. Workers must have competence in basic grooming practices including bathing, brushing, hoof care, and clipping; cleaning and mucking stalls; removing soiled bedding and manure, and replacing with fresh bedding; stripping stalls and disinfecting floors, walls and surrounding areas for broodmares and foals; sweeping barn aisles, stalling areas, and ceiling to remove dirt; maintaining and cleaning water troughs and buckets; handling basic feeding activities; and maintaining equipment.
