Job Duties:

Job duties include performing daily tasks related to cultivation and harvest of almond trees - including, but not limited to, tractor work, irrigation system maintenance, planting, operating harvesting equipment. Tractor Work consisting of connecting implement to tractor (implements may or may not be a PTO driven) and driving tractor. Tasks falling under Tractor work include mowing, discing, blowing berms with tractor mounted fan system, floating orchard, springtooth or ripping orchard, brush shredding, spreading fertilizer or compost. Training will be provided in proper use of all implements. Connection of implement to tractor may require moderately heavy lifting. Irrigation system maintenance consisting of flushing drip irrigation system filters, repairing broken/damaged drip line hoses with couplers, flushing drip line hoses. These tasks require the ability to bend, kneel and/or stoop and to operate a 4-wheel ATV. Training will be provided in proper safety and use of ATV. Planting consisting of preparing the ground for bare-root trees and getting trees into the ground. The majority of field prep is done with tractors when establishing new fields, but occasional planting of individual trees is necessary in established orchards in the event of damage or disease. Planting tasks require the ability to dig with a shovel (holes approximately the size of a 5-gallon bucket), bend/kneel/stoop to get tree into the hole and covered with dirt, and the ability to drive either a 4-wheel RTV or a tractor with a small trailer (depending on the number of trees to be planted). Operating harvest equipment dependent on experience/skill. Possible duties would be operating almond shaker (to get nuts off trees), almond sweeper (to move nuts into lines in the middle of each row), almond conditioner (to remove sticks and debris from lines of nuts), almond harvester (to pick nuts up off the ground), Jackrabbit (to move nuts from harvester to truck location), elevator (to shoot nuts into truck). Training will be provided in proper use of all implements/machines. Almond shaker, almond sweeper, almond conditioner and Jackrabbit require the ability to sit in a confined space.
