Job Duties:
The temporary position requires the Ranch Hand to be available 24 hours per day, 7 days a week and spend the majority of workdays on the range. The worker will live on the range more than 50% of the time in the employer provided range housing which will be clean and in good repair at the time it is provided to the employee. The temporary position applies to the livestock on the range. The ranch hand worker will perform any combination of the following tasks to attend to livestock at the ranch: feeding, watering, herding, grazing, castrating, branding, weighing, and loading livestock. This also includes being able to detect when a cow is close to calving and know when and how to assist. Feed the calf immediately after birth and administer vaccines. Care for the calves from birth to weaning. Milk the cows and save the milk, test for quality, detect and treat for any abnormality such as mastitis or blood in the milk. Detect and treat animal illnesses or injuries, following veterinarians instructions to get the cow into the parlor where we can raise strong healthy calves. Protect and defend livestock from predators and from eating poisonous or noxious plants. Feed and care for horses and other domestic animals used on the range to help with herding. Must be willing and able to live and work independently in isolated areas for extended periods of time. Workers must be willing and able to perform tasks capably and efficiently without close supervision. Three (3) months experience is required in the offered position. One reference must be provided. Must be able to bend, stoop and stretch on a frequent basis and is required to lift up to fifty pounds (50 lbs). The worker must be able to saddle and ride a horse in a safe, effective manner such as to avoid injury to self, coworker, bystanders, or the animal. Employee will work outdoors in all types of weather and may experience occasional exposure to herding hazards such as poisonous snakes and predators. 50 lb lifting and driving requirement is needed. One worker is required to complete this job requirement from April 30, 2020 until December 30, 2020 and will not be needed again thereafter.
