Job Duties:
Worker will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of greens, cabbage, sweet corn, cantaloupe, watermelon, squash, cucumbers, southern peas, pinto beans; onions, potatoes, ornamentals, peaches, figs, blackberries, strawberries, elderberries, muscadines, and green beans. The majority of the work activities during the overall contract period, however, will be related to general farm work/irrigation/crop production. General Farm Work will include the following responsibilities: prepare fields/plant/spray/weed/fertilize and irrigate; form bed with plastic and or drip tape installed; prepare plastic growing beds; transplant crop into fields; plant seeds in plug trays/large grow trays in the greenhouse; sow seeds and plant cuttings; transplant seedlings into trays/fields/grow beds; plant seeds/plants by walking behind tractors to observe planter (unclog planter if necessary); recognize disease and/or nutrient/moisture requirements by plant texture/development or soil condition; observe general condition of plants and apply the appropriate care; haul and spread soil/products/composted material to condition land; dig/rake and screen soil and fill cold frames/hot beds; pollinate/prune/transplant/pinch plants/vines/trees and cull appropriately to ensure development of product; propagate plants; plant in containers; maintain/repair hydroponic/environmental control systems; remove undesirable and excess growth from crops or farm grounds; remove blackberry blooms with Rosetta; harvest, pack, and store crop; cut greens and cabbage; pick/pull crops from trees/plants/vines/soil; use small knives or tools to cut crops from branches or vines; gather bagged produce from field and transfer into bins, hand crop off to or receive from another worker for placement in boxes located on trailers; prepare boxes for packing products; place harvested crop into packaging, boxes, bins, buckets, bags, or onto trailers for shipping or hauling to processing area; dump filled buckets into crates; place full buckets in trailer; transfer full buckets into burlap sacks; pack and store crop; load containers into trucks or wagons; load crops on trucks or field conveyors; load/unload trucks or trailers; work in cooler to shell and peas and beans; grade crops for quality and size; place produce in containers or on designated conveyors; prepare crops for shipment; place crop in designated areas to sell; dispose of unmarketable product as instructed; work on packing line; place/remove plastic mulch and drip tape; place/remove trunk and header lines in fields; build/replace/repair fencing; cut and remove brush to establish new fields; clean fields after harvest; clear property and burn roots and brush; cut weeds and grass around fields, storage buildings, and bunk house; harvest crops; may mix and/or spray chemicals (according to appropriate restrictive use laws, when/if applicable); prepare fields; mix planting soil; maintain/repair structures and grounds; perform general clean up; carry harness, bucket, or bag weighing up to 20 pounds and place crops into plastic lugs which hold approximately 30 pounds; discard diseased/rotting/inferior product and foreign matter; clean up around conveyors; cut/stack fire wood to heat greenhouse; establish, maintain, and grow crops in greenhouse; care for young non-producing fruit trees including weeding, hoeing, trunk painting, hand fertilizing and growth selection by hand and clipping; prune and thin from the ground or a ladder up to 12 feet in height or from a motorized platform; identify and remove stubs or broken branches, downward-growing branches, branches which rub against each other, shaded interior branches, dead wood and shoots/suckers with hand pruning saws and clippers and mechanized equipment; train trees to trellis, including clipping and tying limbs and shoots to wire; train and position tree limbs; prop and tie tree limbs; care for trees/plants during growing process;
