Job Duties:

WATERMELON Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Duties may vary from time to time. Workers may drive other workers to/from housing and packinghouse daily and to/from grocery stores once a week. Workers may be asked to operate the watermelon bus. Perform manual labor to hand cut, pack and re-pack watermelons. Use hand tools such as: shovels, hoes, brooms, scissors, shears and knives. Duties also include cleaning, loading and unloading harvested products. Grade and sort products according to factors such as color, species, length, width, appearance, feel and quality to ensure correct processing and usage. Discard inferior or defective products and/or foreign matter, and place acceptable products in containers for further processing. Weigh products or estimate their weight, visually or by feel. Place products in containers according to grade and mark grades on containers. Measure, weigh and count products and materials. Examine and inspect containers, materials and products to ensure that packing specifications are met. Workers must perform manual labor to pull plastic and weeds from the fields and drive forklift to load watermelons onto a trailer. Removal of irrigation equipment. Work in packinghouse unloading, loading, sticker, grade, pack, make boxes, place pallets, and clean packing area at end of day.

Special Requirements:

GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS AND GENERAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB: Must be 18 years or older. Three (3) months experience needed in cutting, packing and loading watermelons. Employer may conduct criminal background check. Perform prolonged bending, reaching, and lifting up to 60 lbs. All tools, supplies and equipment will be provided at no cost to workers. Workers must have a valid verificable Commercial Drivers License (CDL) or be able to obtain a CDL within 30 days of hire to operate watermelon bus. The majority of the day is spent on ones feet and outdoors. Workers may stand in one place for any period of time. Workers must be able to climb, stand, sit, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, bend (from the waist), push, pull, reach, and lift. Work is performed in outdoor agricultural fields and involves exposure to sun, wind, rain, soil, mud, dust, heat, cold and other natural elements.
