Job Duties:
Workers will walk open fields, cutting iceberg lettuce, from the ground utilizing cutting knifes, and shears. Workers will build boxes for the harvest, handle and move cartons, sort, bag, tap and pack in corresponding boxes. Workers may occasionally hand weed with long handled hoes. A lettuce cutter employee walks on the furrows at the side of a harvester machine, he will bend forward his body (90) over the furrows in the field to cut lettuce head (90%). The employee also works (10%) of his time trimming the lettuce, removing excess or damaged leaves if its necessary depending on the product quality. He will place lettuce on a tray after he is completely sure that the product is clean and ready to be packed. A carton maker employee will (90%) of the time be building boxes on top of a harvester by unfolding the carton and inserting the tabs into a perforation area to complete the box and pass it to the packers over a rail. (10%) of the time, he will be lifting a bundle of cartons of 12 pounds to build the box. The lettuce packers will be sorting and bagging lettuce (90%) and tapping lettuce (10%) and pack on the corresponding box according to the quality. Irrigators will carry irrigation pipes (25%) of the time, weighing 25-30 lbs, and assemble the water lines to prepare them to water crops. After the lines are assembled, they will verify that there are no leaks (75%). Broccoli Harvester will be bending in a forward motion to select & cut with a flat top knife the qualifying broccoli heads and will toss -with a forward and upward motion - the broccoli head upwards to a tray. Broccoli Packer employees will be standing on the broccoli machine platform using their judgement to select the best quality broccoli and meticulously placing it in the correct order and style inside the box. Brussels Sprouts Harvester will walk along the furrow with a long knife chopping the Brussels sprouts from the ground. Once the Brussels sprouts stalk has been cut, employee will throw it onto the machine belt. Brussels sprouts sorter will be standing for the full shift sorting and throwing away unqualified sprouts. Brussels sprouts shredder will stand for the full shift, receiving the cut Brussels sprouts stalks and inserting into the Brussels sprouts shredder. Cherry pickers will wrap tubs with a strap around neck, go up a ladder and select cherries and filling up the tub, once tub is full, employee climbs down from ladder, picks up a new tub and repeats the process. Machine operators will safely operate machinery such as fork lift, walnut machine, and tractors as needed, every machine operator will be tested before being able to operate the machinery. Thinning Job employees will be standing 100% of the time in between the furrows performing a repeated back and forth arm motion to weed and thin lettuce using a long handle hoe. Trans-planter will walk through the furrows and bend down 90% of the time to transplant crops from plant tray to ground.
