Job Duties:

Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Duties may vary from time to time. Workers may drive other workers to/from housing and packinghouse daily and to/from grocery stores once a week. Workers may be asked to operate the watermelon bus. Perform manual labor to hand cut, pack, and re-pack watermelons. Use hand tools such as: shovels, hoes, brooms, scissors, shears, and knives. Duties also include cleaning, loading, and unloading harvested products. Grade and sort products according to factors such as color, species, length, width, appearance, feel and quality to ensure correct processing and usage. Discard inferior or defective products and/or foreign matter, and place acceptable products in containers for further processing. Weigh products or estimate their weight, visually or by feel. Place products in containers according to grade and mark grades on containers. Measure, weigh and count products and materials. Examine and inspect containers, materials, and products to ensure that packing specifications are met. Workers may perform manual labor to pull plastic and weeds from the fields. Workers may drive forklift to load watermelons onto a trailer. Removal of irrigation equipment. Work in packinghouse, part of the farm, unloading, loading, sticker, grade, pack, make boxes, place pallets, and clean packing area at end of day.

Special Requirements:

Must be 18 years or older. Three (3) months experience needed in cutting, packing, and loading watermelons. Employer may conduct criminal background check. Perform prolonged bending, reaching, and lifting up to 60 lbs. All tools, supplies and equipment will be provided at no cost to workers. Workers must have a valid verifiable Commercial Drivers License (CDL) or be able to obtain a CDL within 30 days of hire to operate watermelon bus. The majority of the day is spent on ones feet. Workers may stand in one place for any period of time. Workers must be able to climb, stand, sit, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, bend (from the waist), push, pull, reach, and lift. Work is performed in outdoor agricultural fields and involves exposure to sun, wind, rain, soil, mud, dust, heat, cold and other natural elements. Worker must be able to withstand working in the direct sunlight and weather conditions ranging from hot and humid weather, moderate rain and cold while performing their required job
