Job Duties:
GENERAL SUMMARY: The Shop Mechanic will report to the Shop Crew Lead or Maintenance Manager and will be responsible for fixing tractors as well as other farming implements. The Mechanic will use specialized skills and experience to diagnose any problem equipment or farm machinery might have and generate a cost-effective solution. This position will include tasks ranging from working on an engine's electrical system to welding cracked pipefittings. The Mechanic will maintain equipment in good repair and functioning at its full potential through preventative maintenance and/or any required repairs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: o Using a high degree of independent judgement, assumes the responsibility of a wide range of repairs such as (cultivators, compost spreaders, pressure nozzles, etc.) o Performs medium level diagnostics and repairs on defective equipment and/or machinery, troubleshoots and repairs including engine, transmission, electrical, steering, suspension, braking, air conditioning, etc.to specification. o Read, analyzes and interprets the equipment operator manual, parts manual, service manual and hydraulic/ electrical schematics. o Collaborates with the parts department to ensure parts are available for scheduled repairs and keep low parts inventory. o Performs advanced analysis using specialized tools such as multimeter, flowmeter, hydraulic pressure gauges (tester), Vernier scales (caliper, micrometer), blowby pressure (Diesel Engines) tester to measure wear on internal working components and perform troubleshooting, testing and adjustments of engines, hydraulic system, electrical system and transmissions or hydrostatic transmissions. o Assemble and disassemble (hydraulic pumps, hydraulic cylinders, diesel and gas engines, transmissions and hydrostatic transmissions, final drives or gear box and differentials o Maintains a clean work area and performs work in a neat and orderly fashion. o Completes all reports and forms required in conjunction with work assignments. o Assist the Shop Crew Lead or Maintenance Manager to improve processes and proposes ideas of better techniques to develop mechanic safety procedures. o Supports management in the pursuit of corporate policies, plans, goals, and long-term objectives. o Collaborates with team members from other departments to ensure repairs are done in a timely manner. o Performs advanced welding or fabrication duties as needed. o Assist other technicians with unresolved issues and is viewed as an expert on diagnostics providing training on new practices to ensure mechanics reach their full potential when troubleshooting repairs. o Performs other duties as assigned/required. Physical Requirements o Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Working Conditions o Employee is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside. o The employee is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or to chemicals. o The employee is subject to atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation.

Special Requirements:
All applicants must have at least 12 months experience as an agricultural equipment mechanic. Workers must be able to diagnose problems and repair farm machinery engines and machines including but not limited to tractors, forklifts, harvest equipment, irrigation, and spraying equipment. Applicants must be able to furnish affirmative job references from recent employers operating comparable operations establishing acceptable previous experience. Must be physically able to meet and perform all job specifications stated in job order. Applicants must have a valid drivers license or have the ability to get one within 30 days of hire. Workers must have a clean driving record. Must be able to work in the hot humid weather for extended periods of time. Workers are subject to random drug testing at no cost to the employee.
