- Job Duties:
- The farm work position includes duties associated with the preparation of ginning of cotton and upkeep of ginning equipment. Workers will perform assign duties as instructed by their supervisor. Job duties include operating gins, baggers, forklifts, feeders, loaders and packing press consoles, assisting with running gin, tying, bagging and sampling cotton bales with a strapping system, placing label on bale, keeping machines loaded with strapping and bagging supplies, removing tarps from cotton modules and manually folding and rolling large tarps, remove the plastic and any debris from the cotton as it is unloaded at the gin, keeping work area clean and swept and gin machines maintained, clean up the grounds and equipment that is covered in lint remnants from the ginning process, raking module storage yard, using forklift to move, stack and store baled cotton & load trucks for shipment. Some workers will maintain, repair, update equipment and driver trucks in yard. The employer will provide the tools necessary to perform the described job duties without charge to the worker. The employer will charge the worker for reasonable costs related to the workers refusal or negligent failure to return the tools or due to such workers willful damage or destruction of the tools. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honeybees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a workers ability to perform the job.
Cotton Baling Press: Workers will tag and bag bales of cotton as they come out of the press. Workers must take care that the straps are attached correctly and securely as to not cause injuries to the workers and equipment. Workers will remove a sample of the cotton from each bale per their supervisors instructions. Workers will then bag the bales of cotton and place a tag on the bag. Workers will then load the bales on the bale hoister. Bales are then loaded into a vehicle for transport.
Mote Press: Workers will tie bales of mote as they come out of the press. Workers will attach ties to the bales while they are still in the press to secure cotton. Workers must take care that the straps are attached correctly and securely as to not cause injuries. Workers will then load the bales on the bale hoister. Bales are then loaded into a vehicle for transport.
This work requires adherence to important safety and quality standard operating procedures and the ability to work quickly and consistently alongside fellow workers with a positive, professional, team- based attitude and with consideration for the safety and health of fellow workers. Cotton bales weigh up to 500lbs, Workers must take care to follow their supervisors instructions to ensure all workers safety. Due to the type of work involved, there is a Probationary Period of five (5) days beginning with the first day of employment, to show possession of the requisite physical strength and endurance to perform this type of work.
Farm Equipment Operation During Field Operations: Workers will be required to operate tractors and other farm equipment during field operations as an incidental activity in the production of crops. Before any worker is required to operate any farm equipment, the worker will be instructed in the proper and safe operation of tractor. Workers will be required to operate tractors according to instructions and in a manner that protects the operator, other workers, trees, crops and equipment. Workers may be requested to perform minor and routine maintenance on farm vehicles and equipment. Repeated failure to obey operating and safety instructions may result in termination.
