- All Activities: Workers will perform all job specifications as instructed by the Farm Manager or Crew Supervisor. Each worker will receive and identification badge to be used during activities and throughout the employment period. Duties may vary from time to time and may include all of the following job specifications:
Bus drivers/assistant supervisors will transport workers to and from work-sites from employer provided housing, assist with supervising workers, while assisting with fieldwork activities as necessary. Twenty-five percent of the workers responsibilities will consist of transporting workers using a specified route on specific schedules depending upon production needs. The role of the bus driver/assistant supervisor will require adherence to DOT safety regulations, safe vehicle maintenance, as well as several farm responsibilities while not transporting workers during work shift. Workers are required to take workers once a week to the bank, grocery store, and to the laundromat.
Five percent of each workers responsibilities may be comprised of inspecting a vehicle, checking gas, oil, and water levels. Reporting and coordinating minor repairs to vehicles such as changing tires, and following all maintenance-scheduled requirements. Fifteen percent of the workers time encompass completing daily logs to document all passengers, mileage driven, vehicle inspections, use of gas cards, GPS and vehicle as specified by program, as well as reporting all safety incidents.
Assisting Supervisor: Fifty percent of each workers job duties will be occupied with assisting in inspecting the quality of fruit. Verifying that the harvested fruit complies with Driscolls quality standards. While supporting the farm supervisor with the supervision of the crew, performing the duties of a stacker, transporting fruit to the cooler, as well as substituting in farm labor activities in case of absences.
Drivers must follow specific routes according to times and schedules indicated by field supervisors/managers. Each worker must comply with DOT safety guidelines and traffic regulation for vehicle operation to ensure passenger and vehicle safety. Its essential that drivers safeguard passengers confirming each are seated while following safety practices during vehicle operation, regulate heating, lighting, and ventilation systems for passenger comfort. Drivers are required to report delays and accidents immediately. Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age, have at least twelve (12) months of bus driving experience, obtain and maintain the required drivers license, clean driving record, qualify for registration through the Department of Labor, are able to pass criminal background check, and DOT required medical exam.
Bus transportation: The employee will transport workers from the employer provided housing to the farm and from the farm back to the employer provided housing.
Fruit transportation: The employee will transport the fruit to the cooler securing the load with the berries that need to be taken to the cooler. Count the crates and report the number. Transport the berries to the cooler and verify the documentation of commodities transported to the cooler. Workers will assist in staking boxes, safely loading, unloading, and securing freight on the truck. Complete the vehicle inspection before using the vehicle. In addition to ensuring, the vehicles are regularly serviced.
Field Walking: The employee will assist with the supervision of a crew of farm workers to review the performance of the workers, making certain all the workers have the EPP.
Runner Cutting/Trimming: Worker will walk down row as instructed and cut/trim runners, leaves, and blooms as directed from each strawberry plant as necessary.
Freeze Protection Activities: May assist regardless of time of day, in keeping overhead irrigation rain birds free of ice during freezing weather.
