Beginning on or about October 1, 2021, workers begin preharvest activities. The Christmas tree harvest will begin shortly thereafter depending on environmental conditions.
Harvest requires the packing of trees out of the fields, shaking the trees to remove dead needles, baling the trees using baling equipment, transport of trees on trailers and the loading of trees into trucks. Workers must exercise care to avoid damage to trees and equipment. Other farm responsibilities include clean-up and road maintenance.
When needing to lift items weighing more than 50 pounds, use two or more people to lift the load. The trees selected for harvesting range from 6' to 8' from top to the cut and range in weight from 60 lbs up to 75 lbs once cut down. The trees are then stacked onto a pile and removed from the area with the use of a sling. The trees are then transported to a staging area where they are individually bailed and loaded by hand onto a truck for transport to the different wholesaler or vender locations.
