Job Duties:
Rehabilitate, repair, and construct livestock handling facilities such as fences, chutes, and corrals by stretching wire, setting posts, welding pipe, clearing brush, trees, and other debris; prepare corn stalk pasture for grazing with temporary hot wire, winter mineral tubs, watering troughs; prepare and clean calving facilities and prepare shelters for calves and cows to protect from winter elements such as sleet, snow, frigid temperatures; put cows on corn stalk pasture for grazing; put out mineral and feed cattle with trucks and small tractors to supplement diet for birthing; increase nutrient supply to calving cows and heifers to increase strength; break ice in watering facilities; prepare adequate bedding to calves; calving cows and heifers; provide colostrum to deficient calves at birth; tagging calves as they are born; checking cow and calf health daily; administer medicine as necessary and within hours of birth; sort calves into working facilities; tracking calf gender and growth; scape manure out of pens where cows/calves are confined for sanitation; pull cows and calves off corn stocks; check grass pasture fence; move cows and baby calves to pasture for grazing.
