- Job Duties:
- Workers will perform any combination of the following tasks to attend to livestock and provide animal husbandry to cattle in a 16,000 head feed yard. The worker must be a team player who is willing to cooperate with others, and accept corrective criticism from supervisor.
Workers will assist in processing, vaccinating, tagging, castrating, and doctoring cattle. Assist with receiving and shipping cattle while horseback. Ride pens horseback to monitor cattle health, pull, and treat sick cattle. Assist with wastepipe/trough and pen repairs, mowing and shredding, cleaning, and general upkeep of feed yard. Assist in mixing, batching, and feed delivery. Assist with basic repairs and maintenance of feed mill and associated equipment.
Ability to operate pickups, tractors, loaders, feed-trucks, and skid steers. Ability to weld and basic fabrication skills. Basic plumbing and electrical skills. Requires ability to work extended hours, sometimes seven (7) days per week, prolonged exposure to harsh weather environments, vibrating motions, standing or sitting for prolonged periods. Requires extended periods on horseback and repetitive motions of stooping, kneeling, bending, twisting, pushing, and pulling. Requires moving of material and equipment over fifty-(50) pounds.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
Assist with castration & dehorning of livestock
ID tag, ear notch, and/or brand animals
Assists with the vaccination of livestock
Water and pen repairs and general feed yard maintenance.
Operate equipment, mix, batch, and deliver, feed as directed.
Assist with maintenance and repairs of feed mill equipment including grain legs, augers, grain roasters, grain cleaner and feed trucks.
Perform various manual labor duties assigned by supervisor.
Keep work areas and equipment clean.
Work safely and perform all safety requirements as identified in the Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
Operate other equipment in the functional area.
Other duties as assigned.
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, ETC:
Must be able to perform feed yard duties as needed including processing incoming cattle,
doctoring sick cattle, moving/shipping, and loading cattle.
Must have good knowledge of cattle handling, and horsemanship and feed yard operations.
Ability to ride pens on horseback daily to monitor cattle health in all weather conditions.
Ability to pull sick cattle from pens and move groups of cattle in and out of the feed yard.
Must be able to operate a tractor.
Must be able to drive a feed truck.
Must be able to weld and operated a cutting torch.
Must have at least a basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and hydraulic components.
Demonstrated ability to operate and attach/hook-up all farm/heavy equipment.
Minimum vision standards and depth perception.
Ability to properly manage and handle pesticides, fertilizers, fuels and lubricants.
Requires ability to interact effectively with co-workers.
Requires ability to understand and comply with posted work rules and procedures.
Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: (IF APPLICABLE)
No supervisory responsibilities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS (Lifting, Bending, Stretching, etc.)
Ability to work a ten (10) hour shift, six days a week and extended hours as necessary.
Ability to withstand prolonged exposure to vibrating motions.
Requires ability to withstand seasonal temperature changes and windy conditions.
Requires riding on horseback for extended periods of time.
Requires performance of repetitive stooping, kneeling, bending, twisting, pushing and pulling.
Requires moving of materials and equipment up to fifty (50) pounds over distances of (10) feet or more.
