Job Duties:
Preparing cows and heifers for calving, construct temporary fencing; ensuring existing fence stability and fixing any problem areas; calve cows and heifers; monitor cows and heifers multiple times daily for any early calving; pull calves from struggling cows and first time heifers; monitor mothers and babies multiple times daily; move snow, break ice in watering facilities, ensure hay, salt and mineral blocks availability depending on weather conditions; check all cows and calves for weather related issues; move cows, calves, and yearlings to grass pasture in the spring as forage becomes available; remove all temporary fencing; wean calves by separating calves from mothers; monitor cows and heifers for issues arising from pregnancy; sell weaned calves when grass forage availability is depleted.
