Job Duties:

The job specifications involve general farm labor for the purpose of preparing the farm's potato seed for spring planting season. This is a temporary need for employees during the planting season for the farm. The potato seed needs to be unloaded, graded, sized, cut, treated, and suberized prior to planting. This process involves operating potato seed crate fillers and forklifts in the seed preparation process. Additional details about the duties include: Operate potato seed crate filler, use crate filler to load potatoes into empty crate. Pull empty potato crates on to filling location and position under filler. Signal forklift operator when crate is full of potatoes to remove and relocate appropriately. Notify supervisor of any potato quality issues that may have been missed by grading staff. Operate an engine powered forklift. Use forklift to transport seed potatoes on pallets. Use forklift to unload seed potatoes. Find proper location for potatoes and use forklift to move potatoes to its designated areas. Ensure that all potatoes are placed in the right place to achieve maximum efficiency prior to being sent to the planter. Report any forklift repair needs to the supervisor. Grade potato seed to be used in planting by hand, including sorting out green, rotten or other low quality potatoes as they pass on a conveyor. All tools will be provided at no cost.

Job qualifications include the ability to operate a forklift, a potato crate filler, and perform potato grading . Repetitive movements, extensive pushing and pulling, extensive walking, standing, bending and stooping will be required.
