Job Duties:
Required to perform a variety of supervisory duties related to the operation of a shearing plant. Instruction, training and general supervision will be provided by the employer. However, the employee must perform required duties without close supervision and listen to, understand and follow instructions of the employer. Duties related to the supervision of others will include the following: communicate with employer regarding shearing plant and crew performance; communicate with wool producers and coordinate set up of shearing plant and mobile housing; communicate work schedule to crew; distribute employment documents and wages to crew; effectively provide training and safety instruction; implement and enforce proper handling techniques; maintain shearing plant production records; move and set up shearing plant according to procedure established by employer; organize and set up sheep holding pens Duties related to shearing sheep will include: adhere to safety and animal handling procedures dictated by the employer; applicants must have twelve (12) months experience as shearing crew foreman and must be able to shear 118 ewes/lambs a day after an initial 5 day break-in period. Care must be exercised to avoid nicking, pinking or cutting skin to avoid double cuts; assist with setup and tear down of mobile shearing plant; help move sheep in and out of shearing areas; maintain and repair equipment and shearing facility to the standard established by the employer; may handle and tie fleeces; oil hand pieces and sharpen combs and cutters; place animals in shearing plant and then clip wool close to the hide so that wool is removed in one piece. Care must be exercised to avoid nicking, pinking or cutting skin to avoid double cuts; shear sheep loose (without tying feet) in conditions associated with state(s) climate such as winds, dust, cold and snow.

Required to: perform tasks capably and efficiently without close supervision, spend the majority of work days on the range, live and work singly or in small groups of workers in isolated areas for extended periods of time, maintain and manage remote housing locations in a safe and responsible manner, work outdoors in all types of weather and may experience occasional exposure to hazards such as poisonous snakes, biting insects and extreme temperature, handle animals using low stress handling methods.
