- Job Duties:
- Shipping/Order Fulfillment: Lifting trays and boxes, pallets, moving tables and climbing over transport lines. Must be able to read and match plant varieties by name. Inside and outside work. Loading orders from the greenhouse into the shipping trailers on racks. The trailer capacities 24 to 26 racks. The trays get placed into the racks then shipped to the customer. Employees will need to understand how to read order numbers, varieties, and different sized trays. The tray sizes used for shipping are 10 pack, 72.84, 144, 288, and 102 each tray loaded will be scanned and verified by the crew leader. Re-working: Follow instruction of supervisor to identify lots of plants that need to be reworked. Reworking is identifying tray sells that are empty/void of seedling and replacing the empty cell with a live seedling. Must be able to match description from tray to tray. Manual dexterity and good use of hands is important. Seed Sow: Seed line operator, must be able to follow directions. Lift and move trays, tables, pallets, and boxes. Climb over transport lines. The main seed line operator will instruct employees on keeping empty trays on the line, keeping the soil hopper filled, and stacking seeded trays onto pallets. Finish Dept: Order pulling, transplant, and work as a team. Lifting trays and moving tables, must be able to climb over transport lines. Outside work. Veg Stick Dept: Must be able to follow directions and meet production schedule. Fast paced environment. Must be able to read and match names on labels. Must be able to sit and/or stand for a long period of time. Lift trays and boxes, move tables and pallets, and be able to climb over transport lines. Inside and Outside work. Forklift Driving: Employees that show an aptitude to drive equipment will be trained and certified to drive our farm tractor or warehouse forklift. Cleaning/Sweeping/Throwing Garbage Away: Knox Horticulture maintains a clean work environment, this may include sweeping, hosing down floors, and dumping of any unnecessary products including boxes, plastics, plant material, soil media, washing of garbage cans, etc. Lunch Break: All workers will be required to take a one-half hour lunch period in order to rest and eat their lunch meal. The one-half hour lunch period must be a bona fide meal period. Bona fide meal periods are not work time. Bona fide meal periods do not include coffee breaks or time for snacks. The employee must be completely relieved from duty for the purpose of eating regular meals. Ordinarily 30 minutes or more is long enough for a bona fide meal period. These are rest periods. In order for the employer to make a deduction from the worker’s pay for lunch, the worker must be taking bona fide meal periods. The employee is not relieved if he is required to perform any duties, whether active or inactive, while eating. Here is a summary of the lunch policy for this season. At Approximately 12:00 p.m., on a normal workday, the employee’s crew leader, will advise workers of lunch break. At this point, all workers in the crew are required to quit work and take an uninterrupted 30-minute lunch break. This break must be at least 30-minutes long. At approximately 12:30 p.m., the supervisor will notify its workers to go back to work. This will signal the end of the lunch break and employees are permitted to begin working again.
