Job Duties:
Plant, cultivate, harvest, grade and pack lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, herbs, and strawberries by hand or machine. Use hand tools including, but not limited to: shovels, hoes, knives, shears, clippers, loppers, and saws. Operate farm vehicles and equipment safely, with or without direction. Repair and maintain farm vehicles, implements, and mechanical equipment. Plant roots, seeds and bulbs. Spread plastic or other ground covering. Clean plastic by hand from ground upon removal. Till soil and prepare field for planting. Weed and thin plants. Transplant plants by hand. Stake/tie plants, trellis/prune plants, and set poles and wires for vine plants. Pick, cut, lift, or pull crops. Grade, size, sort and pack product. Take care to prevent damaging produce and plants. Record information about crop yields, organic pesticide application, costs, etc. Prepare reports and update supervisor(s) as needed. Mow, cut, and weed fields. Perform ditching, shoveling, hoeing, hauling, ground preparation, and other manual tasks. Bunch/bundle product pursuant to supervisor instructions. Fill bins/trays and other containers with product, level bins, and prepare product for shipment to market or storage. Perform quality control on inbound/outbound loads. Follow quality control standards and production procedures. Handle product carefully to prevent damage. Palletize and stack boxes/containers. Remove cull stock, debris, tree stumps, brush, ferns, vines and other growth from planting area. Must understand nursery quality control standards and have working knowledge of production procedures. Must harvest crops according to specific standards. Lift, carry, and load/unload products or supplies. Install/maintain irrigation systems and water lines. Move and install irrigation pipes and equipment. Dig large holes to install irrigation tank(s). Dig and maintain ditches. Apply organic pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and other crop protectants. Mix and apply fertilizers, plant growth chemicals, conditioners, and other plant related treatments at the correct times depending on plant type, growth, and climate and crop conditions. Work on production line. Identify potential pest or disease issues and notify supervisor(s). Assist with farm building/field maintenance and repairs, inventory control and order fulfillment. Build/repair fences. Clean/sanitize work areas, buildings, bathrooms and equipment. Supervisor(s) will provide instructions and directions to workers. Workers expected to perform basic duties in a timely and proficient manner without close supervision. Assist with USDA Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) policies. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honey bees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker’s ability to perform the job. Persons seeking employment in this position must be available for the entire period requested by the employer. Employer reserves the right to discharge an obviously unqualified worker, malingerer or recalcitrant worker who is physically able but is unwilling to perform the work necessary for the employer to grow a premium quality product, or for any other lawful reason. Employer may request, but not require, workers to work more than the stated daily hours and/or on a worker’s Sabbath or federal holidays. Worker must report to work at designated time and place each day. Daily or weekly work schedule may vary due to weather, sunlight, temperature, crop conditions, and other factors. Employer will notify workers of any change to start time. Workers should expect occasional periods of little or no work because of weather, crop or other conditions beyond the employer's control. These periods can occur anytime throughout the season. Workers may be assigned a variety of duties in any given day and different tasks on different days.

Lift, carry and load up to 50 pounds. Work on stilts approximately 10 feet above the ground to lean and lower tomatoes. Repetitively bend at waist and knees, walk, push and pull. Work on feet for long periods of time. Work outside in inclement weather.
