Job Duties:
The worker will perform job duties as assigned by the supervisor. They will vary from time to time depending on crop ripening and weather. The cucumber and tomato harvesting is temporary and will last from January to November. In order to perform this kind of work, the worker must be able to work outside for 6 hours a day in all kinds of weather and have the required physical strength and endurance to repeat the harvesting process rapidly and skillfully with their hands and carry the crop in buckets or boxes repeatedly throughout the day. Workers will perform prolonged walking, bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying 0-27 lbs. The employer will provide the tools necessary to perform the described job duties without charge to the worker. The employer will charge the worker for reasonable costs related to the workers refusal or negligent failure to return the tools or due to such workers willful damage or destruction of the tools. Tomato Harvesting-The workers will go down the field rows and pick the tomatoes according to the ripeness and size instructed to be picked. The tomatoes are placed in a bucket . When the bucket is full the worker walks to the nearest transporting trailer to dump the bucket. When field packing is required the tomatoes are placed in boxes, plastic containers, or bags. When they are full, the worker walks them to the nearest transporting trailer and leaves the tomatoes and is given an empty box, plastic containers, or bags to repeat the process again. Cucumber Hand Harvesting- In order to perform this kind of work, the worker must be able to walk down the field row carrying a harvesting bucket or box and bend down and look for the ripe cucumbers, gently twist them off the vine and place them in the harvesting bucket or box. Some cucumber may be put in plastic bags or cartons before it is packed in the box. The worker then takes the full bucket or box of cucumbers over to the loading truck and hands it to the truck loader to dump the bucket into large plastic bins or to leave the full boxes on the truck. The empty bucket or box is given back to the worker and the process is started again. Equipment and Vehicle Operation-The workers may need to drive and/or operate various agricultural farm equipment and vehicles to perform the work on the farm such as field trucks, tractors, semi-trucks, and forklifts. The workers must use safety and precaution when using agricultural farm equipment and vehicles. All passengers must be seated and practice safety and precaution. The passengers must wait to exit the agricultural farm equipment and vehicles when the driver comes to a complete stop and gets off the vehicle. The workers will keep the agricultural farm equipment and vehicles free of trash. Only properly licensed drivers will be permitted to operate the agricultural farm equipment and vehicles. Workers must take care to operate all equipment safely and follow all safety requirements outlined by the employer. Due to the nature of this type of work, there will be a Probationary Period of six (6) days beginning on the first day of employment for the employee to acclimate to the job specifications listed under the Job Descriptions and Requirements. The worker will be given specific instructions as to how to properly perform the work specified in the Job Description and Requirements Section on the first day of work. Workers who do not perform the work as specified, may be terminated.
