- Job Duties:
- This is an application for heathers, vines, ground covers, perennials, ornamental grasses.
Crops and varieties: Abies, Acer, Araucaria, Buxus, Carpinus, Cedrus, Cephalotaxus, Chamaecyparis, Cornus, Cryptomeria, Fagus, Ginkgo, Ilex, Juniperus, Osmanthus, Picea, Pinus, Prunus, Taxus, Thuja. These crops listed may or may not be planted and employer is not limited to only these crops listed.
Job duties of crop production laborer include:
• Plant small trees in rows by hand. This requires the person to be bending all day.
• Counting inventory
• Labeling plants
• Grading plant size and quality
• Preparing soil and growth media
• Hauling and spreading topsoil, fertilizer, peat moss, and other materials to condition land
• Digging, raking and screening soil
• Filling growing tanks with water
• Hand irrigation
• Loading trucks and trailers
• Crimping wire baskets
• Planting, spraying, weeding, watering, hoeing, tilling, potting plants, shrubs and trees
• Care for plants during growing process (hoeing/tilling/watering)
• Ties, bunches, wraps, and packs flowers, plants, shrubs and trees to fill orders
• May fold and staple corrugated forms to make boxes used for packing horticultural products
• Digs up shrubs and trees and wraps their roots with burlap
• Participate in horticultural activities under close supervision on acreage, in nursery or in environmentally controlled structure such as greenhouse and shed
• Pruning
• Removing trash and debris
• Pulling weeds
• Planting and transplanting plants into pots or ground
• Transporting orders to loading dock
• Spray and mix chemicals and fertilizers*
• Operate trucks to carry farm equipment, crops, and farmworkers
• Perform general repair of agricultural equipment
• Repairing farm buildings, installation, setting up and moving irrigation pipes and equipment
• Preparing barns, draining fields, dropping sticks in field, maintenance of tools and equipment and other work that is directly related.
*The Employer attests that all workers will be properly trained in the Worker Protections Standard (WPS) by qualified WPS trainers who have completed an EPA-approved Train-the-Trainer course pursuant to the Oregon 8b
Equipment to be used and provided at no charge include hoe, shovel, hedge trimmers, hand pruners, spray backpack, granular spreader, string trimmer, leaf blower.
