- Job Duties:
- Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Duties may vary from time to time.
Packinghouse Task: The workers will be required to grade, pack, make boxes, clean, perform sanitation procedures, stack, operate palletizer equipment, operate hand jack, and dump bins, strap, repack, and sticker.
Grading: The workers may stand or sit while sorting out produce that does not pass grade inspection. Each worker will pull the produce that has not passed inspection off the line with their hands, and toss the produce into the specified location to ensure the produce reaches the discharge storage area. This will require workers to have good visual skills and hand coordination.
Box Making: The workers will be required to use their hands to remove cardboard material from the staging area and fold into a box container that will hold produce. If the workers uses a Box Machine, the worker will place the cardboard in a designated area of the machine to make produce boxes. Using an upward and downward motion to lift and position full and empty pallets as instructed. The workers will move and position a pallet jack under a pallet to place in a designated location.
Stacking: Workers are required to pick up a produce box (weighing approximately 25 lbs.) from the line, place onto a pallet, and organize the boxes in the pattern and height as instructed. After the pallet is full, the worker will retrieve an empty pallet, place the pallet in the designated area, and repeat the procedure.
Operate Palletizer: The workers are required to operate machines under the direction of company personnel. Company personnel will give specific instructions on lever usage and process completion. The workers will also perform maintenance to ensure machines are operating efficiently.
Lidder: The workers will be required to ensure that lids are properly placed on boxes.
Filler: The workers are required to monitor equipment to make certain all boxes are properly filled with tomatoes.
Dump Operator: The workers are required to operate machine as directed by company personnel. Company personnel will give specific instructions on lever usage and process completion. The workers will also perform maintenance to ensure machines are operating efficiently.
General Cleaning/Sanitation Procedure: The worker is required to clean produce machines with cleaning tools, spray and wipe down designated areas, and sweep floors.
General Specifications and Physical Requirements of the Job:
The majority of the workday is spent on one’s feet, constantly in movement. Workers are rarely in one place for any period of time. All of the packing is done on the packing facility located on the farm, indicated as secondary agriculture under the FLSA definition of agriculture. Workers must be able to stand, walk, sit, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, bend (from the waist), push, pull, reach, lift and carry items weighing in range from 5 to 25 pounds during the course of performing all required job specifications.
Stooping and Bending: This activity would be constant for the listed job specifications. This activity would comprise much of the workers regular workday. Workers comes to a standing/vertical position each time they complete a full box of produce and carry it to the designated area.
Considerable dexterity is necessary when grading produce. Productive workers constantly handle crops using both hands, and use repetitive reaching motions. Workers also use a pushing motion to push carts, trays, or pallets.
