Jobs offered are working in a hydroponic greenhouse facility deleafing tomato plants.
Under supervision, workers will perform manual labor to work in hydroponic greenhouse facility to deleaf tomato plants.
Deleafing: Workers will remove leaves (shoots/suckers) from tomato plants to expose clusters of ripening fruit, based on the crop schedule. Workers will remove leaves/shoots/suckers from the plant, as trained; utilize learned skills for deleafing plants within defined quality standards; ensure no stumps remain on the vine from the cut of the shoot/leaf from the vine; use of Scissor lift (trolley) (variable); maintain cleanliness of the rows and trolley; ensure that all leaf debris is disposed of properly, either placed on tarps under the gutters or in bins/tubs; communicate concerns to Crop Supervisor/Assistant Grower; follow all hygiene, Good Agricultural Practices, Food Safety and Health Safety requirements, as per training; assists in ground tasks, such as dropping vines, cutting out dead plants, cutting stems; maintain a positive, fair and flexible attitude with management and co-workers; maintain the work area and ensure equipment is clean and in working orderly condition and follow prescribed food safety regulations.
Work is done in the greenhouse for long periods of time.. Must possess ability to lift, bend, twist, push, pull and carry up to 50 pounds. Workers must work on their feet in bent positions for long periods of time. Work requires repetitive movements and extensive walking. Work in warm, humid temperatures (minimally 70 degrees). Visual and audio sensory are needed regularly: work with background noise of up to 70 decibels. Must be able to hear and see moving equipment for one’s own safety as well as to hear announcements (in case of emergency) as well as buzzer indicating lunch and breaks. Requires good manual dexterity (ability to work with hands for the entire shift). Must possess ability to follow instructions, make critical decisions quickly and repeatedly, and effectively communicate information and respond to questions. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honeybees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker’s ability to perform the job. Workers should be able to do the work required with or without reasonable accommodations.
Must wear assigned personal protective equipment when required. Must report for work daily wearing work clothing and boots or other durable foot wear. Shorts, bathing suits or other casual clothing not permitted.
