- I. FOOD SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Under the direction of the field supervisor, workers will perform duties such as, rodent abatement, clean fields of unwanted trash, sanitize equipment and may collect tissue samples of plant or soil.
A. Equipment Sanitation – Employee will engage in sanitizing farm equipment that has been used for the purpose of ground preparation, planting/transplanting, harvesting and post-harvest product in the field. This will be done by a de-mucking process or a full sanitation with anti-microbial sanitizers. As the equipment comes in o the sanitation pad, the attendant will need to move this equipment and make a record on the service performed on the cleaning log.
B. Equipment and driving activities: Workers may be required to operate tractors, trucks, vans, and other farm equipment during field operations as an incidental activity. Before any worker is required to operate any farm equipment, the worker will be instructed in the proper and safe operation of tractor. Workers will be required to drive Kubotas or ATV’s as well as operate equipment to move into the wash pad.
C. Technician Sample Collector – As a Sampler Collector you will tend to a variety of tasks that include but are not limited to; collect tissue samples for microbial assessments, soil fertility, and residue analysis.
D. Field Sanitation – Rodent abatement which includes tasks such as changing rodent traps, collecting trash and other ranch maintenance projects.
E. Crew Driver – Employee will drive workers to the work site, to the grocery store, and to the homesite.
F. Workers will bend and stoop to pick weeds. Workers are required to work in fields when plants are wet with dew or rain. Temperatures in the fields during the working hours can range from thirty-five (35 F) to over ninety-five (95 F) degrees.
G. Employees will be required to perform duties such as cleaning up the fields they are working in by, picking up trash, discarding of unwanted packing items such as boxes, packs, or ties.
H. Employees will be required to abide by all people safety and food safety regulations and will be required to participate in ongoing safety trainings.
i. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Employees will be required to walk stand, kneel, stoop, and bend extensively. Employee must be able to use hand tools, including cutting knives and shears. Employees must be able to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions, including rain, cold, heat, and high winds. Employees must be able to work in temperatures that can range from 30 degrees Fahrenheit to over 100 degrees Fahrenheit during the time of employment. Work is performed based on weather temperatures, employees must be able to work in the day, evening, or nights. Employees will be exposed to dusty conditions, exposed to mud, and other natural elements. This work may entail exposure to plant pollens, insects, and noxious plants. At times the fields and crops will be treated with insect and/or disease control sprays, employees will be required to abide by the Worker Protection Standards and re-entry times.
