Avocados.
Grade, size, and sort product according to color, shape, size, appearance, feel, and/or quality, in accordance with supervisor's instructions and employer standards. Inspect products for damage/defects and discard inferior products and foreign matter. Place product in bins/trays and other containers according to grade and mark grades on containers. Weigh products and record weight and/or grade. Handle product carefully to prevent damage. Operate equipment safely, with or without direction. Must follow quality control standards and production procedures. Clean/sanitize work station and equipment.
Must have sufficient hand and finger dexterity to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects. Must be able to differentiate colors, textures, and other attributes of product to distinguish varieties and identify defects. Alert supervisor of any product defects. Have great hand-eye coordination for sorting and packing avocados. Remove completed or defective product, placing them on moving equipment such as conveyors or in specified areas such as loading docks, pallets, etc. Needs to be able to pack boxes fast. Packs avocados arranging in successive row in containers.
Workers must be able to pack, lift and move full lugs of avocados. Assemble liners, line and containers using bare hands or some type of authorized tools. Attention to detail to report quality discrepancies and fill reports as needed. Clean containers, materials, supplies or work areas, using food approved cleaning solutions and equipment. Keep sorting/packing station in order and clean. May weigh packet avocado or remove to obtain specified weight.
Worker must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel and perform repetitive movements for extended periods of time. Must be able to load/lift 60 lbs. with no difficulty. Must wear weight belt whenever lifting. Must be able to reach overhead.
Within the packing house and/or warehouse, the noise level is frequently moderate to high. In the product plant area noise levels can exceed 80 decibels when machinery is operating. The employee has extensive internal and external interfaces with others and the work requires continual problem-solving, the prioritization of tasks and projects, resolution of conflicting needs and issues, and the ability to read, analyze and interpret trends and data. Tolerance to noise is required and basic math skills and strong manual dexterity is important to perform the basic duties of the job.
Workers must operate all equipment properly and in a manner that protects operator, others, the employer’s products and property. Failure to comply with safety requirements and operating instructions may result in disciplinary action up to and including immediate termination. Employee may drive Cal Van. Employee may pick up workers from different housing sites/pick up points and take them to an assigned work site and at the end of the day take them back to the housing site/pick up point. In order to drive a Cal Van, employees must possess valid driver’s license (state issued) and must be able to pass Class B Physical exam and register as an FLCE driver. The employer will be responsible for the cost of the California Driver’s License, Class B Physical Exam, and registration as an FLCE driver (if any). All employees in this position (H-2A as well as corresponding domestic workers), will be given the opportunity to obtain a driver’s license (DL) and register as an FLCE driver on a voluntary basis. The DL and FLCE Certificate are not a pre-hire job requirement. No job applicant will be denied an employment opportunity due to a lack of a DL or FLCE Certificate at the time of application and/or hiring. Further, no worker (H-2A or corresponding domestic worker) will be terminated for failure to obtain a DL or FLCE Certificate.
Employer may offer a second shift from 3:30 PM to 12:00 AM Monday through Friday, as needed.
