- Job Duties:
- General Duties: Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Duties may vary from time to time. Repair, maintain barns and packing sheds for purpose of food safety requirements. Workers may be asked to operate farm equipment, driving in-field trucks or ATVs, skid steers, forklifts, or tractors; with or without the following implements: including a hipper, disk, du-all, chisel plow, bedding machine, plant cutter, transplanter, bushhog, gravity-flow buggy, potato digger, water trailer (for plant irrigation), de-vining machine, feed mixer and any other equipment related to the planting, cultivation and harvesting of crops or related to animal husbandry. Planting & Lay-By or Related Prep (Primary Responsibility): Assist in covering seed potatoes by operating bedding and plastic machines or using shovels. Cut & gather potato slips by hand using knife or by following plant-cutting machine and place in boxes. Load & unload plant boxes onto trucks and sweet potato trans-planters. Prepare the ground for planting. Manually weed field by hand (may also use hand tools). Ride mechanical trans planter and load slips in planting arms. Walk behind potato trans-planter and fill in slips by hand. Participate in irrigation activities (set-up/break-down, operate & repair irrigation systems). Drain water from fields with hand tools/shovels, when needed. Packhouse Duties (Secondary Responsibility): Work in packhouse. De string, sort & grade potatoes by size, quality, or type. Remove non-compliant product from the pack line and dispose of in appropriate crates. Assemble cardboard boxes for use on the pack line. Weigh and stack filled boxes to prepare for shipment. Wrap and move pallets using electric pallet jacks. Assist salespersons in pulling and loading customer orders. Field & Pasture (Secondary Responsibility): Clear ground of rocks, sticks & roots by hand. Clear brush & trees with chain saw or related hand tools. General field & fence maintenance. Haul hay & feed cattle. Herd and assist management with veterinary or general maintenance tasks performed on cattle (to include jobs such as assisting with births, administration of shots, and application of ear tags). Assist with loading & unloading of cattle to be shipped or received at the farm. Raises and bonuses may be offered to any seasonal worker, at the employer’s discretion, based on individual factors including but not limited to, performance, experience, number of hours worked in the season, number of seasons worked with the company, adherence to work rules and ability to follow supervisor instructions.
