Job Duties:

Workers will perform assign duties as instructed by their supervisor. Cabbage: The cabbage Cutters will line up in designated cabbage rows. Workers will bend over each cabbage to cut. After cutting the cabbage, workers will inspect and trim. Workers will then put the cabbage in a bag and put the bag on a stainless steel table that will be continually pushed behind the cutters as they proceed on their rows. Workers should be able to keep up with the machine. Kale: Workers will unload packing supplies from equipment. Workers will hand harvest. Pick multiple rows at a time and don't change rows until they get to the other end of the field. Worker will be required to selectively pick only leaves of a certain grade, color and/or size as instructed by the supervisor and discard leaves that do not meet grade standards. Workers will remove any weeds manually by hand that may be in the bunch before continuing. Worker cuts greens with a knife or may break the leaves off by hand according to size, color, shape and degree of maturity. Worker makes uniform bunches, secures bunch together with rubber band or twist ties according to order specifications, places bunches of greens into a container. Worker may place an identification tag on the bunch. For loose or loose with no stem, worker cuts greens with a knife or maybe directed to break leaves off by hand according to size, color, shape and degree of maturity and place leaves in a container. If a container is a box, worker makes the box. Worker closes container after packing and loads container onto wagon/trailer. Defective fruit that do not meet grade standards, as directed by supervisor, will be picked and thrown on ground. Worker may also work on packing equipment where the worker would stand on the back of a harvesting machine and ensure that boxes are filled to the proper level with loose greens. Worker will make the box. Worker will then give the full box to another worker where it will be stacked on a wagon/trailer. Workers will be required to stoop, bend and lift up to 30 pounds for long periods of time. Workers will be terminated immediately if seen intentionally destroying, defacing or causing damage to produce or crops. Lettuce: The Lettuce Cutters will line up in designated lettuce rows. Workers will bend over each lettuce to cut. After cutting the lettuce, workers will inspect and trim. Workers will then put the lettuce in a bag and put the bag on a stainless steel table that will be continually pushed behind the cutters as they proceed on their rows. The worker in order to perform this kind of work must be able to work outside for at least 6 hours a day in all kinds of weather and be in possession of the requisite physical strength and endurance to repeat the picking process rapidly, the employer will provide the tools necessary to perform the described job duties without charge to the worker. The employer will charge the worker for reasonable costs related to the workers refusal or negligent failure to return the tools or due to such workers willful damage or destruction of the tools.

This type of work, involves working conditions that require tremendous stamina, a high level of physical activity in cold or extremely hot conditions in direct sunlight and in adverse weather such as rain. The work requires a high level of physical conditioning. Due to the type of work involved, there is a Probationary Period of five (5) days beginning with the first day of employment, to show possession of the requisite physical strength and endurance to perform this type of work.
