Job Duties:
During the anticipated period of employment, the primary activity on the farm is planting, cultivating, harvesting and packing cabbage and sweet corn. Workers will be required to pull and transplant seedlings from cabbage beds, hoe weeds from planted fields, hand cut mature cabbage heads in the field and load into cabbage field bins and/or wagons. Workers will also be required to hand pick, pack and ice sweet corn. Care must be taken to avoid damage to the cabbage and sweet corn. Workers must be physically able to cut cabbage which requires extended periods of bending. Working conditions are often cold, wet and muddy or hot and dry. Workers will pick-up rocks and tree roots from fields; as well as set and move irrigation pipe. Packing line requires up to 55-pounds of repetitive lifting. Workers may also drive pickup trucks, tractors or vans to transport workers to work location. Not all workers are requested to drive. Those that are requested to drive will be required to possess an appropriate license. No one will be rejected for the position that does not possess a drivers license. All workers are required to have 3 months experience in commercial, conventional farming in the jobs listed and the ability to comprehend English. All workers will be required to keep the work area neat and clean. Workers must comply with Federal and New York State Food Safety regulations.
