Job Duties:
FARM LABORER: 1. Worker will be required to carefully hoe and hand weed in onion fields. Workers must exercise care at all times to not harm or remove adjacent onion plants. 2. Workers may be required to repetitively use ladder as directed to place product/trays. 3. General clean-up: Worker will be required to conduct post-harvest clean up including power washing, sweeping, hoeing and shoveling. 4. If worker is eligible to drive under Michigan law, Employer may require worker to drive in Employer-provided vehicle to and from the worksite and to other locations within 30 miles as directed. Tractor driving: Some workers may be required to drive tractor and/or forklift. Employer will provide additional training for this task. Greenhouse Activities: Worker will be required to set up greenhouse space as directed by supervisor. Worker will mix soil for filling flats/pots/hanging baskets as directed, worker will fill flats/pots/hanging baskets on flat filler machine and stack as directed. Workers will feed full trays through seeder. Workers will then transport seeded trays into greenhouse and place onto bed/ground/racks in an orderly manner in accordance with supervisor instructions. Extra care must be taken not to disturb, disrupt or spill the planted seeds from the tray cells during transport from seeder to flatbed/ground/racks. Worker will be required to transplant from plug trays into cell trays/pots/hanging baskets as directed by supervisor. After transplanting, worker will be required to place appropriate variety tag into tray/pot/hanging basket as directed by supervisor. After placing tag, worker will be required to lay out flats/pots/baskets and place onto bed/ground/racks/or hang baskets in an orderly manner in accordance with supervisor instructions. Worker will load flats/pots/baskets of plants, according to same-lot of plants onto carts or plant racks to be transported to loading facility as instructed by supervisor. Worker will be required to inspect and remove any undesirable foliage/flowers/plant material from flats/pots/hanging baskets. Worker will be required to differentiate and keep separate different varieties of plants when placing onto carts or plant racks. Worker will be required to push full racks onto trucks as directed by supervisor. Worker will be required, as directed by supervisor to unload empty shipping racks off of semi-trailers. Worker will be required to spray weeds in the greenhouse. Additional training will be provided by the employer for this task. Worker will work in and around greenhouses doing general maintenance, and monitoring plants according to supervisor instructions. Celery Trimming: In the greenhouse, worker will be required to use an electric push-cart to trim/mow the tops of the celery. Additional care must be used to safely perform this task. Employer will provide training. Celery Planting: Worker will be required to carefully carry celery transplant trays weighing up to 20 pounds to trailer. Worker will load trays onto celery transplanter. Worker will plant celery while riding on transplanter or walking behind filling in missed plants or fixing improperly placed plants. Worker will unload empty celery flats off transplanter and place back into trailer for reuse. Worker will be required to clean transplant trays. Worker will be required to stoop, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds repetitively throughout the day. Irrigation: Worker will move aluminum irrigation pipes weighing up to 60 pounds that vary in size to water in transplants. Worker will conduct hand tasks associated with laying and maintaining irrigation system throughout season, including placing pipe in field, taking out after season and placing/maintaining throughout harvest.

Job requires worker to complete tasks in annual bedding plants, celery, beets, onions, general farm labor. Season Commitment: Job offered requires worker be available for and worker agrees to work every day that work is available for entire employment period. Worker must be able to perform job description duties in safe manner consistent with established safety procedures. Worker must possess requisite physical strength and endurance to repeat packing, sorting, cleaning and general farm labor process throughout workday. Worker must work at sustained pace and make good faith efforts to work efficiently as reasonable under working conditions. Drug testing not utilized as pre-employment tool. See work rule #4 for more information regarding post-employment drug testing.
