Bine Hanger (Harvest): This job consists of unloading the hop trucks by hand and hanging the hop bines upside down onto the hooks that carry the bines into the pick machine. Must be able to communicate with the truck/tractor drivers so they can instruct them when to pull in, when to stop and when they are cleared to leave. Must be able to bend and lift repeatedly for long periods of time. Must use caution when standing back up with the bine and be aware of where the hooks are to avoid injuries to the head. Must work at a fast, efficient and safe pace in order to keep the picking machine properly fed and ensure that production is optimized.
Drip Tube Removal (Post-Harvest): This job consists of walking through all harvested fields and removing the drip tube from the planted row of hops and laying it in the center, unplanted area of the field. This allows each tube to then be rolled back up using an automatic roller. This job consists of bending, pulling, kneeling, squatting and walking. You may be required to use a knife to cut away any of the hop plant material that is wrapped around the tube. Must be able to work efficiently and safely to get all the tubes removed from the plants. Must be able to safely use a knife.
Work is done in the field for long periods of time. Workers may assist in handling product weighing up to 60 pounds and lifting to a height of 5 feet. Workers must work on their feet in bent positions for long periods of time. Work requires repetitive movements and extensive walking. Work required in fields when plants are wet with dew and rain, and may be required during light rain, snow, moderate winds, direct sun, high humidity and extreme temperatures. Temperatures in fields during working hours can range from 40 to over 105 degrees F. Workers may be required to work during occasional showers not severe enough to stop field operations. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honey bees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker's ability to perform the job. Workers should be able to do the work required with or without reasonable accommodations.
Supervisor(s) will provide instructions and directions to workers. Workers must be able to comprehend and follow instructions and communicate effectively to supervisors. Unusual, complex or non-routine activities will be supervised. Workers expected to perform basic duties in a timely and proficient manner without close supervision. Workers must obey all safety rules and basic instructions and be able to recognize, understand and comply with safety, pesticide warning/re-entry and other essential postings. Workers must operate equipment, with or without direction, in a manner that protects operator, visitors, other workers, products, trees, crops and equipment. Failure to comply with safety requirements and operating instructions may result in termination.
Non-employees access to work sites or adjacent areas strictly prohibited. Non-working minors may not be present, adjacent to worksites, or left in vehicles during the day.
