The Department of Labor recently announced new minimum wage rates, called Adverse Effect Wage Rates (AEWRs), that employers must offer and pay, at the time work is performed, to nonimmigrant H-2A workers and workers in corresponding employment beginning on the effective date of the new wage rates. Job Duties:
Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Duties may vary from time to time. Following the Supervisors instructions, the worker will fulfill the following duties to harvest and maintain passion fruit and hemp: Shovel Work: Workers are required to use a shovel to make a hole 6" to 1' depending on the size of trans plant. Planting: Worker is required to loading and unloading the plant/tree from plant delivery vehicle and loading fam equipment and which is taken to the fields and place into holes pre-dug by shovel work. Irrigation installation & removal: Worker will be connecting and installing irrigation (poly) lines at various points in fields for irrigation practices of crops. Removal of irrigation (poly) lines and connections at end of crop season. This task will include shovel work as needed. Tying/wiring of plants: Worker is required to take material and place in hand to guide along post to neighboring post/stake to hold plant up by material. Procedure may be preformed on both sides of plants/trees. Staking(Stand/ and Pound): Using both hands gathering bundles of stakes/post from bed farm equipment and carrying to place a stake/post between each plant. Each stake/post must remain upright. Repeat process through entire field. Once the first procedure is performed the worker drives in the stake 12" - 14" into the ground. If using manual hammers, worker must place opening over stake and pound stake into the ground. Spraying: Worker is required fill back pack with water & mix material into back pack sprayer. Once completed worker is to place back sprayer on back by strapping on and applying material to designated areas of the farm, plant, tree and ground. Note: (This will require work to receive Worker Protection Stander training to the level of Handler) Removal of String/material from plants/trees: Worker is required to use a knife/scissors that is provided by employer and with hands to cut through string/material. from the top to the bottom of the plant/tree with a downward motion and cutting through sting/materials while gathering material and placing into designated areas of filed. Worker will stop and place string/material that has been collected and into a trash bag provide by employer and continue the process until each are assigned is completed for the day. Once completed for the day or bags are full worker must place bags of string/materials at the end of the roadways for collection. Clean Up: The worker will be required to pick up by hand and place the post-harvest debris throughout the production area into containers provided. This clean-up includes digging out with shovel and picking up any unwanted trash, vegetation, and debris. Weeding: With both hands, worker grab on wanted vegetation from field and remove it from the plant/trees beds or field. Placing vegetation in middles of field. Repeat process throughout entire field. Stake Pulling (by hand operation): Worker removes stakes/post from ground and places into bundles, straps around bundles and tightens straps before placing on farm equipment for removal.
