Job Duties:
The worker will perform job duties as assigned by the supervisor. They will vary from time to time depending on crop and weather. The farm work is temporary and will last from August to November. Watermelon Hand Harvesting-In order to perform this kind of work, the worker must be able to walk down the field row and use a knife to hand cut ripe watermelons off the vine for harvesting. The watermelons are then loaded in a bus by forming part of an assembly line, in which the first worker bends down picks up the watermelon and it is passed on to consecutive workers by passing, catching, lifting, until it reaches the worker on the bus, who then sets it down and stacks them until the bus is considered full. Watermelon Packing- The watermelon is transported by bus to the packing shed. Upon its arrival, it is unloaded by a group of workers and placed on a conveyer belt. The group of workers on the conveyer belt are responsible for sorting, labeling, and packing the atermelon in cardboard containers. While the workers are waiting on the next load of watermelons to arrive, they will be responsible for assembling card board containers. Pumpkin Hand Harvesting & Field Packing-In order to perform this kind of work, the worker must be able to walk down the field row and use a pair of loppers to hand cut ripe pumpkins off the vine for harvesting. The pumpkins are then loaded in a flat truck by forming part of an assembly line, in which the first worker bends down picks up the pumpkin and it is passed on to consecutive workers by passing, catching, lifting, until it reaches the worker on the loading truck, who then sets it down and stacks them inside a cardboard bin until it is full. Canteloupe Hand Harvesting- In order to perform this kind of work, the worker must be able to walk down the field row and find the ripe cantaloupe based on texture and color specifications given by supervisor. The ripe cantaloupes are picked off the vine by hand. The cantaloupes are then loaded in a bus by forming part of an assembly line, in which the first worker bends down picks up the canteloupe and it is passed on to consecutive workers by passing, catching, lifting, until it reaches the worker on the loading truck, who then sets it down and stacks them inside a bin until it is full. Corn Hand Harvesting- In order to perform this kind of work, the worker must be able to walk down the field row and look for the ripe corn and cut the crop off the plant by pulling in a downward motion. The corn is then placed in harvesting crates until full. The worker then takes the full crates to the loader on the loading truck. They are given an empty crate and the process is started again. Corn Packing-The corn is transported to the packing shed. Upon its arrival, the crates are unloaded by a forklift and placed on a conveyer belt. The conveyor belt dumps the corn out of the crates onto another conveyor belt. The group of workers on the conveyer belt are responsible for sorting, labeling, assembling the crates and packing the corn in crates according to specifications given by the supervisor. Pumpkin, Gourd, and Winter Squash Hand Harvesting-In order to perform this kind of work, the worker must be able to walk down the field row and use a knife and hand cut the ripe pumpkins and gourds off the vine for harvesting. The pumpkins and gourds are then stacked inside a bucket until it is full. The bucket is taken to the loader on the loading truck to be emptied. The empty bucket is given back to the worker and the process is started again. A properly licensed worker will be required to transport workers to and from work each day. A properly trained worker will assist in operating various farm equipment to assist with farm labor. A qualified worker may be requested to be a working team leader.

Special Requirements:
The worker must be responsible and consistent on the job. The worker must be able to lift 0-75 lbs., do repetitive movements, extensive pushing and pulling, walking, frequent stooping continuously throughout the day, and work in all kinds of weather conditions. Workers may be subject to random drug testing at no cost to the workers. All drug testing will be carried out after the workers begin employment and is not part of the interview process. Workers who do not go through or decline a drug test will result in immediate termination.
