Job Duties:
FIELD WORKERS (Hand Labor): Field Workers will perform the following duties on all row crop vegetables: Crop cleaning/weeding: Under the direction of the field supervisor, field workers walk along uneven furrows looking for weeds around crops and between product seed lines. Uses a long-handled hoe to clean lot of any unwanted matter/leaves on the beds and seed lines and then remove debris from field as instructed by field supervisor. Thinning: Under the direction of the field supervisor, field workers walk along uneven furrows identifying the specified gap between seeds, and using a long-handled hoe, thin out any excess crop/seeds and/or weeds on the seed line, leaving behind the desired spacing of product in the field. Seed crops: Under the direction of the field supervisor, field workers walk along uneven furrows and use a lettuce knife to remove portions of the product and seed into furrow. Cal Van Driver: Responsible for transporting workers from housing sites and pick up points to and from work sites, processing paperwork, inspections, fueling, and cleaning of vehicle. The employer assures that the drivers are paid, at a minimum, the AEWR for actual driving time, processing paperwork, inspecting, cleaning and fueling of vehicle. Cal Van drivers are to perform all duties related to the Field Worker position when not driving. Employee may drive Cal Van on public roads. To drive a Cal Van, employees must possess valid drivers’ license (state issued) and must be able to pass Class B physical exam and register as an FLCE driver. The employer will be responsible for the cost of the California Driver’s License, Class B physical exam, and registration as an FLCE driver (if any). All employees in this position (H-2A as well as corresponding domestic workers), will be given the opportunity to obtain a driver’s license (DL) and register as an FLCE driver on a voluntary basis. The Driver’s License and FLCE Certificate are not a pre-hire job requirement. No job applicant will be denied an employment opportunity due to a lack of a Driver’s License or FLCE Certificate at the time of application and/or hiring. Further, no worker (H-2A or corresponding domestic worker) will be terminated for failure to obtain a DL or FLCE Certificate. Workers may occasionally and/or sporadically perform duties associated with and directly related to the primary duties such as cleaning up field. In the event an employee is injured while on the job, the Company will provide a temporary work assignment as closely related to the job duties described herein while the employee recovers from the illness/injury under a physician’s orders. The work assignment will be temporary to accommodate the injured worker pursuant to a physician’s orders, and this temporary work may differ from the heavy field work described herein.
