- Job Duties:
- Fencing, providing water, mineral and salt to cattle on corn stalks; checking water and breaking ice in tanks; building and wiring electric fence; work outside in blizzard and extreme cold conditions; diagnose and treat sick and injured cattle from horseback as well as ATV; drive semi truck or tractor with trailer attached to haul corn, silage, hay bales, etc., cattle from pasture to pasture and sale barn, and move feed around on the ranch; assist with calving cows including diagnosis of labor, sorting heavies, tagging, branding, vaccinating, banding and cutting bull calves, pulling calves when needed, tubing calves, bottle feeding calves; drive tractor with feeder, bale processor, scraper, etc.; knowing how to balance a feed ration for cows and stockers; read bunks and adjust the feeding accordingly; build 4-5 wire fence; installing water tanks, water lines, water pumps to provide water to the cattle; repairing equipment, welding fences/equipment, servicing equipment including tractors, trucks, pickups, trailers, cattle equipment such as loading chutes, working chutes; building and repairing panels, windbreaks, and fence throughout the season; driving a stock trailer on a pickup and a cattle pot on a semi truck; give vaccinations, do ear tagging, banding and/or cutting bull calves, branding, and worming cattle.
