- Job duties include: performing duties related to livestock reproduction, such as calving; monitoring food, mineral, and water supplies; Examining animals to detect illness, injuries, or diseases, and checking physical characteristics, such as rate of weight gain. May include providing medical treatment, such as administering medications and vaccinations or arranging for veterinarians to provide more extensive treatment. Preparing for wintering livestock. Transport calves to market, and train horses. Must drive and control equipment to fall working crop fields. Prepare farming and hay equipment for winter storage. Maintain of farm equipment. Haul hay bales to ranch site from fields and grain to elevators.
