Job Duties:
Worker will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of poultry, alfalfa, and cattle. The majority of the work activities during the overall contract period, however, will be related to poultry production. Duties related to the production of livestock will include the following: inspect and report the need for maintenance of all equipment and infrastructure; clean, maintain, sanitize, disinfect livestock incubators, hatchers, barns, pens, chick rearing facilities, hatching trays and equipment, corrals, stalls, sheds etc.; spray poultry areas with disinfectants and vaccines; collect and properly dispose of waste; check/change lightbulbs; build and maintain nesting boxes and ensure boxes are full of shavings; operate incubators and hatchers; monitor feed, water, illumination, and ventilation systems and clean, adjust, lubricate, and replace system parts as needed; mix feed/additives and feed/water livestock; clean and maintain feeding equipment; drive equipment to haul/distribute feed/water; monitor the incubation/hatching process; assist chicks in the hatching process; count baby chicks into cages; split up baby chicks to different tiers within barn; remove birds from shipping cartons and place in brooder houses; remove weak, ill and dead poultry from flock; select, weigh, and crate poultry; cut off tips of beak; segregate, grade, and sort chicks; move poultry/eggs into/out of enclosures, incubators, hatchers, etc.; collect/candle/wash/sort eggs; examine animals to detect illness/injury/disease, rate of weight gain or to determine offspring delivery time; check physical characteristics, observe general condition of livestock and apply the appropriate care; assist in delivery of offspring; apply or administer medications, vaccines, and/or insecticides; handle and care for young livestock; maintain records on livestock; prepare birds for shipping; herd livestock; drive trucks to haul the birds to shipping locations; may mix and/or spray chemicals (according to appropriate restrictive use laws, when/if applicable); remove undesirable and excess growth from crops or farm grounds; paint/repair/maintain farm structures; replace/repair fencing; perform general clean-up of farm areas; operate vehicle, motor bike or all-terrain vehicle in the course of performing duties; hoist/stack bales of hay onto wagon/truck. Irrigation duties will include the following: Wheel lines: start gasoline engines and operate controls to move lines across fields at specified intervals. Flood irrigation: shovel and pack dirt in low spots of embankment or cut trenches in high areas to direct water flow siphon water from flooded reservoir or ditch to channel water into designated areas; shovel or hoe soil to clear ditches/furrows and build embankments to appropriately channel water; remove pipes/wheel lines from storage and lay out/place in predetermined patterns in fields; set and move siphon tubes.
