- Job Duties:
- General farm/ranch laborer needed for hay, cattle, ryegrass and farm animals. Worker will assist in seasonal hay and ryegrass operation including operation of equipment, field prep, plant, water, maintain, fertilize, and harvest of crops along with maintaining cattle and farm animals. Work includes field prep for hay/ryegrass planting, irrigating fields, plant, cut, fluff, harvest, and bail hay, load and unload, disburse hay to cattle, driving tractors and equipment, herding, seasonal calving, sorting calves, castrating, clean stalls, count heads, branding, ear marking, horn tipping, vaccinating, feeding/water, assist with gates and at stalls, loading/unload of grain, hay and supplies. Spray cattle with approved insecticides, weed control, predator control and check/maintain of livestock. Help repair and maintain farm animals, barn, buildings, cattle, corrals, equip (change oil, filters and gas), farm, fences, fields, levees, pastures, ponds, properties, roads, shed, shop, water troughs, and vehicles. Help maintain headlands/grounds, keeping clean and neat. Manually clean, tear down and erect miles of fence. May clear brush with hand tools, machinery, service/repair all equipment, check, maintain/repair water lines, manual shovel work/hoeing of weeds, spot spraying treatments, tanks, windmills, and pumps. There is a heavy workload during seasonal calving and hay season that includes everything that goes along with hay/ryegrass farming for cattle. Workers must assist in working during drought or other excessive weather conditions and must be able to ride, handle and care for horses, as well as work cattle from horseback. All aspects of position offered must be done in a manner to assure the safety of the workers/coworkers and livestock. Must have basic working ability with fence tools and common farm and ranch implements. Must be reliable and able to perform assigned tasks capably and efficiently. Workers must be able and willing to work alone or in small groups in isolated areas for extended periods of time. Worker must be able to lift/carry 80 lbs. M-F, some Sat/Sun, OT varies. Employees may be compensated above the stated hourly wage, this decision to pay above the prevailing hourly wage will be made by the employer, basing this decision on factors that include the individual recipient's performance and work history. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, insect spray and related chemicals and pesticides, etc. may affect workers ability to perform the job. Employer may require post hire, random, upon suspicion or post accident drug testing, all at no cost to employee. Testing positive or failure to comply may result in immediate termination from employment. Job includes stooping, lifting and working outside in inclement weather. Must have 3 mo exp in similar position.
