Job Duties:
Perform manual labor to plant, cultivate and harvest sweet potatoes, soybeans and corn by hand, using agricultural equipment and tools. Operate farm equipment and machinery. Weed soybean and sweet potato fields by hand or using hand tools. Sort, grade and pack sweet potatoes by size, quality, and type. Clear ground of rocks, sticks & roots by hand, clear brush and trees with chain saw. Complete general field & fence maintenance. Use wood to build and repair boxes for digger. May drive tractor while pulling mechanical transplanter and implements including hipper disk, dual, chisel plow, bush hog and any other equipment related to planting, cultivating, harvesting, crops. Drain water from fields with hand tools and shovel when needed. May operate two row digger, skid loader, planter, digger, forklift, nail gun, power washer, machete, knives, drill, hoes, shovels, or sickle cutter. Cover potatoes with plastic. Cut slips by hand with knife, place in boxes to load & unload onto trucks. Dip potato slips. Walk behind potato transplanter and fill in slips by hand. Ride mechanical transplanter and load slips in planting cups. De-vine plants by hand. May clean potato shed/storage and warehouse. Use mechanical digging equipment to dig potatoes. Load diggers by hand. May harvest sweet potatoes by hand with use of buckets. Must be able to sort, grade & pack potatoes by size quality or type. Load and unload boxes on trucks, trailers, or sweet potato harvesters. Repair, maintain and clean all hand tools and mechanical equipment prior to and after use. Build or repair barns or potato sheds. Workers may be asked to operate tractor pulling mechanical digger. May also operate skid loader to load and unload trucks and trailers. Safety training for use of farm equipment and tractors will be provided. To ensure the safety of all employees, those interested in operating machinery must be able to communicate with and adequately follow instructions given by management. Management reserves the right to restrict employees from operational duties who do not show proficiency to effectively communicate with management and may therefore place other employees' safety in risk. Workers with a valid driver's license and doctor's certificate may be offered additional hours to operate company vehicles to transport other workers to fields and grocery stores. De-string, sort, grade and pack sweet potatoes by size, quality, or type. Remove non-compliant product from the pack line and dispose of in appropriate crates. Assemble cardboard boxes for use on the pack line. Weigh and stack filled boxes to prepare for shipment. Wrap and move pallets using electric pallet jacks. Assist salespersons in pulling and loading customer orders. Employer may request, but not require, workers to work more than the stated daily hours and/or on a workers Sabbath or federal holidays. Worker must report to work at designated time and place each day. Daily or weekly work schedule may vary due to weather, sunlight, temperature, crop conditions, and other factors. Employer will notify workers of any change to start time. Workers should expect occasional periods of little or no work because of weather-reason. These periods can occur anytime throughout the season. Workers may be assigned a variety of duties in any given day and different tasks on different days. Persons seeking employment in this position must be available for the entire period requested by the employer. Employer reserves the right to discharge an obviously unqualified worker, malingerer or recalcitrant worker who is physically able but is unwilling to perform the work necessary for the employer to grow a premium quality product, or for any other lawful reason.

Special Requirements:
Must be 18 years or older. Three months experience needed in hand cutting slips and use of mechanical transplanter and mechanical diggers, sorting and grading sweet potatoes. Workers who operate company vehicles must have a valid drivers license. Most of the workday is spent on one's feet and outdoors. Workers may stand in one place for any period. Workers must be able to climb, stand, sit, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, bend (from the waist), push, pull, reach, and lift up to 50 lbs. Work is performed in outdoor agricultural fields and involves exposure to sun, wind, rain, soil, mud, dust, heat, cold and other natural elements. Worker must be able to withstand working in the direct sunlight and weather conditions ranging from hot and humid weather, moderate rain and cold while performing their required job duties. Must be able to work with minimum supervision.
