- Job Duties:
- Workers will manually plant, cultivate, care for, and harvest grapes in our vineyard. Use of hand tools such as, but not limited to, trowels, hoes, pick irons, hammers, pry bars, wire tighteners, shovels, pickaxes, tampers, pruning shears, loppers, and picking shears will be required. Duties include tilling soil, spreading fertilizer, planting, transplanting, weeding, pruning, thinning crops, moving catch wires, hedging, installation and removal of bird/animal deterrents such as netting, seeding cover crops, applying mulch/compost, leaf removal, applying fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides. Operation of power equipment such as chain saws, trimmers, hedgers, power washers will be required, along with operation and maintenance of tractors and tractor-pulled equipment used in the day-to-day vineyard operation. Picking, sorting, and loading harvested product, constructing and maintaining trellises, fences, machinery, equipment, buildings, landscaping, drainage systems and ditches, irrigation systems. Employees will hand harvest and load harvested fruit. Additionally, workers will perform preventative tasks in preparation of frost and cold weather. Duties include running and monitoring frost protection pumps prior to winter season, maintaining proper irrigation of the vineyard before potential freeze, draining pumps, checking antifreeze levels, and servicing equipment during the cold weather. Workers will also assist in dormant vine pruning, rough pruning, and final pruning to select the best vine chutes. Employees will assist in general maintenance of vineyard structures such as retying wires, pulling thick vines, replacing old rebars and bamboo on trellis, fixing irrigation lines, and draining irrigation lines to remove minerals.
