Job Duties:
Crops: Flowers, Blackberries, Strawberries, Muscadines, Blueberries,, Orchards or row crops such as corn, Soybean and Rice. Following supervisor’s instructions workers will carry out all common jobs, such as plant, cultivate, grow, maintain, and harvest, related to the farming operation of specialty crops. Included tasks include land preparation, irrigation, fertilization, spray operations, apply pesticides, mowing, pruning, training, weeding by hand with weed trimmers or mowers, planting, manufacturing and apply compost using wire, paint brushes, hammers, stretchers; to placing repair and maintain posts, trellises and fences, inspect crops for damage, disease or insect infestation, or remove said plants, cleaning fields welding, construct buildings, shade structures, high tunnels, or additions and perform building and structure maintenance. Workers may clean, maintain, adjust and repair machinery and equipment, vehicles, tools and structures, oiling moving parts and replacing parts are needed. Workers will operate machinery, equipment, vehicles and tools as needed. Workers will use tools such as but not limited to shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, loppers, paint brushes, saws, knives and baskets as needed. Workers shall harvest crops into the required packing where it be 6 oz, 12 oz or 18 oz clamshell, carton box, plastic bucket or other type of package. May harvest product seconds into plastic buckets. Harvest will be carried out per supervisor instruction to not damage the crop or surrounding plants. Harvest will be of the correct maturity and quality as specified by supervision. Workers will clean, pack, load harvested products and perform post-harvest cleanup and other related activities. In addition, workers may be assigned to Quality Control duties including but not limited to prepping trailer with correct packaging, assisting the quality control personnel and scanning badges. For some crops, workers will take their packed product to the Quality personnel who will scan their ID badge to record their individual harvest. Quality personnel will inspect product to ensure that the correct quality is being packed and to take corrective measures if not. Other tasks include the loading and transportation of the product from the field to the packing house, may clean, repair and maintain packing shed, further packing and palletization of the product, labeling, cooling of the product, loading of trucks by hand, forklift, or pallet jack filling out documentation and transmitting of said documentation. Tasks also include maintenance and cleaning of the facility as well as unloading materials. The packing house is located on the farm. Workers may be asked to drive workers from/to housing, worksite and market. Season bonuses may be offered to any seasonal worker the employers discretion based on factors such as performance, experience and number of seasons the worker has worked with the company. Workers must be 18 years of older and have three months experience, at least of picking or working with specialty crops. The majority of the day is spent on one’s feet and outdoors and involves exposure to the elements. Workers must be able to stand, sit, squat, kneel, crouch bend from the waist, lift and carry items up to 60 pounds in the course of performing required activities. Workers must be detail oriented, work quickly, efficiently and have the endurance and strenght to bend over for a long period of time. Hours and days of work may vary due to weather conditions including exposure to sun, wind, rain, mud dust, heat, cold and other natural elements. Workers may be offered more than the standard hours to work on a workday. Hours of work my increase/decrease depending on crop yield, and/or weather conditions and can occur at any time during the season.

Special Requirements:
Workers must have at least 3 months experience picking or working with specialty crops. Applicants must be able to furnish affirmative job references from recent employers operating comparable operations establishing acceptable previous experience. Must be physically able to meet and perform all job specifications stated in job order. Must be able to work in the hot humid weather for extended periods of time. Workers are subject to random drug testing at no cost to the employee. All drug testing will occur after the worker begins his or her employment and is not a part of the interview process. Failing or refusing a drug test will result in immediate termination.
